I wake up and stretch, hyper-aware of the rock-hard body behind me. Last night I felt like I shed my skin just by opening up to Nikolaos, and our relationship feels like it can progress from here.
He still thinks he’s ruined, and I think that about myself too. I just hope we can grow closer and heal ourselves while we heal each other.
Turning around in his embrace, I’m surprised he’s still sleeping. Last night must have been cathartic for him, just as it was for me - a purging of the secrets we allowed to define us. It stops after this; I won’t allow my abuse to take over my life anymore and prove to Nikolaos how much he’s loved.
My eyes go lower, taking in his scars and how it now makes sense that he’s covered his body with tattoos. He was hiding his shame and turning it into power by looking more intimidating.
I mean, it worked - everyone fears him, and for good reason. He’s not just an Alpha but a Lycan Alpha.
Kissing his bearded cheek, I slip out of bed and head to the bathroom to do my business. I haven’t felt this relaxed in my life and by the way Ares is saying good morning; I know he feels the same relief.
Just as I dry my hands after washing them, I slip on my ring and hear a crash inside the bedroom, so I run inside. The bedside table is on its side while Nikolaos is nowhere to be seen; when I’m about to walk out of the bedroom to find him, he rushes back in.
His eyes are wide with what looks like fear and his mouth is hanging slightly open as he takes me in.
“Mia,” he breathes out my name and pulls me into his arms. “Fuck, I thought last night was a dream. Don’t leave me like that again.”
I blink rapidly, frowning at his words. “I was just in the bathroom,” I squeak and his hold tightens so I slap his arm. “Can’t breathe, Alpha!”
He lets go of me and places his hands on my shoulders. “I’m sorry, I just… It’s so good to see you again.”
Gods, I am so full of love for him right now. I wrap my arms around him and lay my head on his chest, my heart constricting when the memories of last night come flooding back. My Alpha is hurting, so badly hurt and I will make it my mission to show him just how special and loved he is.
“I’m not going anywhere, I promise,” I say, then I stand on my tiptoes to give him a peck on the cheek. “Good morning, Alpha.”
The smile on his face knocks the wind out of me. He pulls me close and kisses the top of my head. “Good morning, beautiful. Don’t leave me like that next time,” he grumbles.
“I didn’t want to wake you,” I say and hold him close again. “You looked so peaceful and you were out like a light.”
“Thank you for letting me sleep, but rather wake me, okay? These past few weeks I’ve spent day in and day out wishing you’d wake up and praying you wouldn’t slip away from me,” he says with a choked-up voice.
I breathe out a sigh and then nod my head. “Okay, I’ll wake you up next time.”
It still astounds me how this powerful Alpha feels about me. From a surrogacy agreement to not wanting to live without me - the world has definitely changed for me.
“Come, have breakfast with me,” he says, pulling me out of the bedroom by my hand, but then he stops and turns back to walk to his closet - only to return with one of my fluffy nightgowns.
“Nikolaos?” I ask, amused, and he stifles a growl.
“You’re wearing my t-shirt with no panties underneath; I am in no mood to kill one of my men if they dare to look at you,” he grumbles.
I hide a giggle behind my hand and allow him to wrap me up before he leads me downstairs. The scent of bacon, eggs, and all sorts wafts through the pack house, and my stomach rumbles.
“That’s a sound I love to hear,” Nikolaos chuckles and walks me into the kitchen. Spread out over the island are breakfast foods of all kinds, leaving my mouth to water. “Eat up, little rabbit.”
Gosh, you don’t need to tell me twice. I scoop bacon, eggs, pancakes, and mushrooms onto my plate and dig in. It’s been a while since I’ve eaten or had an appetite like this, but I don’t allow myself to feel self-conscious about eating.
“I never thought I’d be so happy seeing someone stuff their face,” he says, sipping on a glass of juice. “Eat up, I want you filled out and supple again.”
I raise my eyebrow. “You want me all squishy?”
A growl thrums in his chest, and his eyes shimmer to black. “Fuck, yes I do,” he says, looking at me with utter possessiveness, and I nearly choke on a mushroom.
“Okay, jeez,” I say and continue to eat more food. When I’m finally satisfied, I rest my chin on my fingers and tell him what I’ve been thinking about for a long time now.
“Are you sure, Mia? It’s a big step,” he asks when I tell him what I want to do.
I nod. “That name means nothing to me now. I hate it. I’ve been Mia since I met you and I want to make it legal.”
He thinks for a while, bracing his arms on the table in front of him, but then he nods. “Okay, if that is what you want. But it will have to be after the wedding, so your name and surname can be changed simultaneously.”
