“Ashton, is what you said true?”

He walked to the door and opened it. “Dick… Maren?”

He’d started to call out for Dick, but standing before him was Maren–alone.

Had Dick already finished and fled?

Cullum knew Dick wasn’t particularly brave. Considering Maren had just bested Daniel, maybe Dick feared she’d kill him in a fit of rage.

Still, Cullum hadn’t considered the plan might fail. Even though Maren had turned off the camera, the microphone had remained live. They’d clearly heard her drink the wine laced with the drug while Dick was

present.

“Cullum, my name’s not Dick.” Maren’s tone was cool as she took in his startled expression.

“My mistake. I was expecting my friend,” Cullum said, forcing an awkward grin.

Her calmness unsettled him.

Was she trying to save face? Bluffing?

Or was the substance so potent she didn’t remember anything?

They’d tested that formula thoroughly. It was supposed to leave anyone confused and powerless.

“Your friend wouldn’t happen to be named Dick Natt, would he?” Maren asked, voice sharp.

Cullum’s face paled.
