Without hesitation, Maren delivered her final remark, seized the folder, and exited the room without a backward glance.

Ashton instantly spiraled into panic. “Wait, hold on…” he called out, desperate to stop her, but she kept moving as though he didn’t exist. “Please! Don’t go!”

His pleas grew louder, yet Maren didn’t even falter.

“I’ll sign it!” Ashton finally snapped, shouting like a man unhinged. The thought of spending his life in prison was unbearable.

At the threshold, a faint smirk tugged at Maren’s lips. If he had yielded sooner, none of this would’ve been

necessary.

Only then did she turn on her heel.

“Hand it over,” Ashton growled, reaching for the pen with stiff fingers.

But Maren held back.

He stared at her, puzzled. “What is this?”

“You want to sign it? Apologize to me first.” Maren held the folder up and waved it in front of him.

Ashton thought he misheard. When it hit him, rage burned in his chest.

She wanted him to grovel before signing?

It was degrading beyond belief.

At that moment, Cullum entered, half–carrying Bobby, who could barely stand. On hearing Maren’s demand, Bobby nearly lost it.

In fact, he was already losing it.

“You heartless witch! I’m your brother! How dare you do this to me? I swear I’ll end you!”

Bobby, now fully alert, lurched forward.

Thankfully, Cullum restrained him just in time. Without intervention, Bobby would’ve snapped completely.

Not that he had the strength–after what Dick had done, Bobby could barely stay upright.

Without Cullum’s support, he would’ve crumpled.

“Maren, you’ve crossed a line. How’s Bobby supposed to live with himself now?”

Cullum couldn’t erase the image etched in his memory. What he’d witnessed had left a permanent scar. He couldn’t wrap his head around her cruelty.

“This is your idea of unbearable? Relax. You’ve got a lifetime ahead to stew in it.” Maren casually crossed her legs, eyes fixed on Ashton. “Well? Will you apologize?”

“I’m sorry,” Ashton muttered, jaw clenched. “It was my fault.”

“Dad!” Cullum and Bobby yelled in unison.

“Why should we say sorry? She destroyed me! I want her gone!” Bobby screamed.

“Add that threat to your list of crimes. Want to extend your sentence?” Maren said smoothly, eyes on Bobby.

“Shut it, Bobby!” Cullum clamped a hand over his brother’s mouth. Unlike Bobby, he hadn’t lost his grip on reality.

He was involved in this too. If Maren chose to expose them, they were done for.

“Maren, we were wrong. I’m sorry. Please, for the sake of blood, let it go,” Cullum pleaded, head bowed.

Maren let out a single sharp laugh before tossing the document onto the table like throwing scraps to dogs. “Go on. Sign.”

With trembling fingers, Ashton flipped through the pages and reached for the pen.

He’d once been a nobody. If not for marrying Maren’s mother and inheriting her company, he wouldn’t have tasted power.

Forget running a business in such a skyscraper–he wouldn’t have even qualified to sweep the floors here. And now, it was all slipping away. One signature, and everything he had was gone.

The same board members who once addressed him with respect wouldn’t even meet his gaze. He’d be just

another forgotten name–at best.

The fall from grace was brutal. Ashton could barely process it.

And he wasn’t the only one.

Cullum and Bobby felt it too. They’d lived cushioned lives, drunk on status, and now that shield was cracking.

And Bobby… Without the Morgan family’s legacy, no woman would give him a second glance.
