Maren figured Gina was too cautious to be manipulated, so she decided to target Blackwood instead.

“Sweetheart, shall we head upstairs?” Blackwood saw Maren hanging back and offered with a warm smile.

“Okay,” Maren agreed, following closely behind as Blackwood guided her out of the lower deck.

As she watched Maren’s retreating figure, Gina couldn’t shake off a lingering suspicion.

Was this really just a coincidence?

Blackwood led Maren into a lavishly adorned suite, tastefully furnished with artistic decor that revealed its

owner’s refined taste. Clearly, this was his room.

“You can rest here for now since I don’t know where your room is. I’ve got a full set of medicines to patch you up,” Blackwood said generously. Yet beneath his hospitality lay a hidden motive he had no plans of letting

Maren leave.

Thankfully, Maren’s performance was convincing; others might not have been able to hold back.

“Wait, do you have a boyfriend or something? Is that why you’re being so shy?” A shadow crossed Blackwood’s face as the idea sank in. Maren picked up on the quiet edge of deadly intent in his voice.

“It’s not that. I’ve just spent so much time on my own, being around people feels strange.” Maren fabricated a

reason.

“Ah, I get it.” Blackwood’s face eased up the moment he realized she wasn’t seeing anyone.

Intrigued, he asked excitedly, “You’ve always been alone? You’ve never had a boyfriend?” The obvious joy in his voice was impossible to miss.

“Yes, that’s right,” Maren said quietly.

Blackwood had barely made it a few steps to grab some clothes when Gina’s words brought him to a sudden

halt.

He turned sharply. “What did you just say about my cousin?”
