Chapter 155 Clues To Dark Pontiff
Stormclaw appeared at the top of the stairs just moments later, making his way towards Isla’s room.
He’d kept vigilant watch for days outside the villa, deeply concerned about Maren, who’d gone without rest for
far too long.
From time to time, he had peeked in to ensure they were okay.
“You’re finally awake, Isla!” Stormclaw hurried to her bedside, joy brightening his expression as he examined
her condition.
He was one of Maren’s closest confidants, and Isla knew him well.
“I’m so relieved you’re awake now,” he added.
Back on the ferry, Maren never gave him and Simon the signal they’d awaited anxiously, causing them growing unease during their wait.
“Were you successful with the assignment?” Maren asked.
After handling the ferry situation, Maren hadn’t brought Stormclaw or Simon back; instead, she’d sent them
onward to the Borba Bay.
Stormclaw had returned days ago, but with Isla’s health critical, Maren had set aside other matters temporarily.
Hearing Maren’s question brought a serious look back to his face.
“We didn’t manage to catch Mr. Lion himself. We got one of his men, but before we could question him, he
used poison hidden in his tooth. I’m sorry, this was my mistake.”
“Don’t worry about it. Mr. Lion clearly has no conscience. To him, his men are just disposable tools,” Maren
remarked, shaking her head slightly.
Though the Borba Bay might’ve offered pleasant scenery, Isla’s critical condition demanded they return to Baimsa. Without Isla’s situation, Maren would have pursued Mr. Lion relentlessly.
Still, hunting him wasn’t her primary objective. She’d merely sent Stormclaw and Simon as a precaution- failure there didn’t particularly trouble her.
“You mean the hunchbacked guy who keeps lions as pets?” Isla suddenly asked, overhearing their conversation
clearly.
Both Maren and Stormclaw turned to Isla, startled by her sudden question.
“Is that who you saw?” Maren asked Stormclaw, having never personally encountered Mr. Lion.

“Yes, that’s the man.”
“You’ve actually seen Mr. Lion before?” Maren asked Isla, surprised and intrigued.
“Yeah, he’s come to the Sovereign Underworld headquarters a few times, usually meeting Frank and his people. And also…”
“And also what?”
Isla paused abruptly, leaving both Maren and Stormclaw puzzled.
Finally, Isla spoke again. “I once heard Mr. Lion bragging to Frank that he’d tracked Nikolas all the way to Echucan.”
Nikolas!
The name shocked both Maren and Stormclaw.
“Are you sure he said Echucan, Isla?” Maren asked anxiously.
Stormclaw’s expression darkened. “I never imagined Nikolas had been forced into hiding all the way out there. We should act immediately to bring him back safely!”
“Not so fast.” Maren needed every detail first. “Isla, please tell us everything you remember clearly.”
“I’ll try, but I didn’t overhear much.”
Isla carefully pieced together her memory before speaking further.
Around three months earlier, Mr. Lion had visited Frank one final time at the Sovereign Underworld.
She had been imprisoned and couldn’t get any useful information.
Since Frank had seized power after Nikolas vanished, he had struggled to gain loyalty. Most people didn’t respect him. So he deliberately boasted loudly, attempting to prove he was as formidable as Nikolas.
Because of that, it wasn’t exactly confidential information.
“Interesting. Frank’s authority is weaker than he pretends,” Maren murmured.
Suddenly it all made sense. The Sovereign Underworld’s fighters sent after her didn’t recognize her because
they were Frank’s new recruits. Older members likely resented Frank’s rule.
“Did you catch any specifics about exactly where Mr. Lion hunted my father?” Maren pressed further.
Echucan was far too big. Without a location, they’d never manage a rescue in time.
“All I remember is that it was a jungle region. I’m sorry, that’s all I heard,” Isla admitted honestly.
Stormclaw quickly interjected a practical suggestion. “Isla just recovered–she shouldn’t stress herself. Leave this investigation to me. We’ll begin searching Echucan jungles known for recent violence. It might give us a
lead.”
“Good thinking I’ll rely on you for this If you find even the smallest hint, report it to me immediately.” Maren thought his plan made sense.
