Chapter 157 The Commission (Part One)

“Wilbur, something’s come up. I’ll catch you later.”

Nadia had no idea what Wilbur was thinking. She only saw Wilbur staring intently at Maren’s retreating figure,

which irritated her greatly.

She couldn’t contain herself and called out to him.

She silently cursed the assassin’s incompetence and resolved to call them again.

She had to get rid of Maren.

“What about dinner tonight?” Wilbur finally asked, snapping out of his daze as if nothing unusual had

happened.

They had just returned from the Borba Bay and were planning to have dinner together.

“We’ll reschedule. I just remembered an urgent matter,” Nadia said, making up an excuse to leave.

Finding a quiet alleyway nearby, she angrily dialed the man responsible for arranging the assassin.

“Good evening, Miss Morgan. How may I assist you?”

“How dare you even ask that? You promised me Maren would be dead. Why did I just see her alive and perfectly fine?” Nadia vented her frustration as soon as the man spoke.

The man hesitated briefly before answering, “I apologize. Our assassin searched the ferry thoroughly, even the Borba Bay afterward, but your target was nowhere to be found.”

“That’s ridiculous! I saw her with my own eyes on that ferry!” Nadia argued furiously, certain Maren had been aboard. Though truthfully, she hadn’t known Maren’s exact whereabouts afterward.

“Since she’s resurfaced now, we can always attempt another strike,” he suggested smoothly.

“Fine,” Nadia agreed impatiently.

“But there’s one condition,” the man explained coolly. “Our previous operation was a total waste of resources due to your faulty intel. We’ll require a higher price–fifty percent extra.”

“Are you kidding me?” Nadia erupted, outraged at the accusation. Her information was flawless, yet they blamed her and still dared to raise the price.

“My apologies, but without your agreement, our arrangement ends here,” the man responded firmly.

“Fine, charge whatever you want! I’d pay twice as much if it means Maren’s finally dead!” Nadia agreed harshly, focusing solely on her ultimate goal.

Once Maren was removed permanently, the entire Morgan family’s fortune would naturally fall into her hands.

Compared to that prize, the assassin’s fee hardly mattered. But if Maren remained alive, Nadia wouldn’t see a single cent.

“Miss Morgan, we are grateful for your trust. We’ll make our move tonight. To avoid any unintended harm, it would be best if you stayed out this evening,” the man said before hanging up.

Tonight?

Nadia smiled viciously. Tomorrow she’d finally be rid of Maren for good.

“If I’m not going home tonight, where should I go?” she murmured.

She watched the sun begin to set and, after a brief moment of thought, decided to call Wilbur to pick her up.

Wilbur felt puzzled by her quick turnaround, but chose not to question further, taking Nadia to his home.

Evening soon arrived, painting the sky in darker shades.

On their way home after an enjoyable day at the amusement park, Maren and Isla walked side by side, pleasantly exhausted.

Noticing a stationery shop nearby, Isla tugged Maren in eagerly, picking out a brand–new backpack and school supplies. Now fully prepared for school, she happily skipped ahead, excitedly bouncing along.

“Maren,

why’d you stop walking?” Isla suddenly noticed Maren lingering behind.

She glanced back and noticed Maren frozen in place, staring intently down a dark alley where no light shone at

all.

“What is it, Maren? What’re you staring at?” Isla asked, stepping closer and following Maren’s intense gaze.

Maren quickly looked away. “It’s nothing serious. Isla, go ahead and rest at home. There’s a school principal I know living close by–I’ll pay him a quick visit.”

“A school principal? Really? Is it about school?” Isla instantly brightened at the mention.

“That’s right. Head home now; I’ll be back soon with good news,” Maren said, gently stroking Isla’s head.

“Great!” Isla cheerfully hurried towards the villa.

Ensuring Isla had safely gone inside, Maren stepped into the darkened alleyway, approaching a blind psychic quietly seated there, surrounded by tarot cards.

“Are you here seeking love or fortune today?” the psychic asked politely, adjusting his dark glasses.

“I prefer discussing life and death,” Maren replied coldly, settling across from him with a chilling smile.

Surprise flickered briefly over the man’s expression. “Life and death?”

“Yours, specifically. Let’s find out if you’ll walk out alive tonight.” With those chilling words, Maren suddenly thrust a dagger into the small table between them..

“You saw through my disguise?” the blind man asked in surprise, clearly not expecting her to discover his identity as an assassin.

“I told you to let me handle things personally. Look at this mess–your hired killer barely lasted seconds.” A flashy figure in a bright pink suit irritably kicked the dead man’s body.

The man Nadia hired to kill Maren spoke. “Come on, Thorn, you set your price so high. What do you expect from me? I already told the client it would be fifty percent extra.”

“Tell her she needs to pay more. I’ve said it before–I want half of the Morgan family fortune,” Thorn replied

casually, lighting a cigarette.

Sighing, the other man reluctantly picked up his phone to call Nadia again.

He’d gravely underestimated Maren’s lethal capabilities.

The now–dead assassin had been among Voutsas‘ most feared killers, yet he’d been eliminated by Maren without even putting up a fight.
