Chapter 193 Why Do You Still Look Disappointed

Maren aimed steadily and fired one clear, precise shot, killing the leader on the spot.

Sawyer immediately raised his pistol and took out the remaining savages without hesitation.

Within moments, the village, which had housed hundreds of savages, became silent and empty, reduced to nothing more than bodies scattered on the ground.

“I’ll go with you,” Sawyer offered after realizing Maren intended to head to the cave.

“Alright,” Maren agreed without argument. She looked off to the cave the leader had indicated before his death. It stood on the mountainside, not too far from them.

Before leaving, Maren returned to the cellar to help Tessa and Natalie out.

Maren quickly explained what had happened, emphasizing that Sawyer had arrived just in time to help her.

“Wow, Sawyer! You’re incredible!” Natalie exclaimed, looking at Sawyer with wide eyes.

“Yeah! I had no idea you were this good!” Tessa added, clearly impressed.

The savages who had terrorized Tessa and Natalie were now just lifeless bodies lying still in the dirt.

Ethan and Carlo moved quickly too, eager to find Eugene, their tour guide, and Neil, their friend.

Once everyone had gone, Maren and Sawyer made their way to the cave.

Even before they entered, the overwhelming smell of decay hit them hard.

“The smell is so strong. There must be hundreds of bodies,” Sawyer said, speaking from his own past experiences. The number here far exceeded what they had discovered earlier in the wooden hut. “Looks like they’re all from the Sovereign Underworld.”

When they stepped into the cave, a gruesome sight met them: a huge mountain of corpses.

This time, Maren didn’t bother searching carefully. Every corpse was clearly wearing the Sovereign Underworld uniform, meaning they were Frank’s men.

So many had died here. She quickly realized that Nikolas and his guards must have killed these pursuers and piled their bodies here afterward.

“Wait, there’s still power?” Sawyer said in surprise, pulling a phone from one of the corpses. He turned the screen on, finding it still had battery life.

Maren quickly grabbed it from his hand and checked it herself. “That means he died just a couple of days ago.”

There was no chance someone had charged a dead man’s phone. Even on standby mode, the battery wouldn’t last more than a few days.

If this man had died recently, it meant he must have been involved in the latest gunfight. And that could only mean Nikolas and his guards were still alive.

Maren couldn’t contain her relief. She quickly unlocked the phone using the corpse’s fingerprint, scanning through it for more clues.

Luck was on her side; she soon found what she was looking for.

The phone showed recent calls with a high–ranking member of Sovereign Underworld. Just two days earlier, they’d had a phone call.

She checked the texts as well. The man had reported Nikolas‘ location, saying Nikolas‘ group had received. reinforcements and were trying to escape by sea

If all these pursuers were now dead, did that mean Nikolas had successfully gotten away?

“What are you looking at so intently?” Sawyer approached, noticing Maren’s intense focus.

“Nothing.” Maren quickly switched off the phone and tossed it aside casually. “Battery died. Let’s move.” She turned and walked out of the cave without waiting.

“Maren, we need to leave now!” Tessa called urgently. She and the rest of the group approached quickly, bringing the wounded along.
