“Are you always this suave and diplomatic?” Maren looked at Lucien, her expression one of bewilderment. Despite his apparent strength, he exuded an air of resignation and limitation.

Lucien replied, “It’s not like I had a choice. Taking on the role of the Marshall family heir is far from easy. Pretending to be of no use has kept me alive all these years.”

Ever since his birth, the position of heir had been highly sought after. His survival to this point was largely due to his humble demeanor.

“That might’ve been true before. But we’re not living in the past. Maybe you had a reason back then. So tell me, what’s your reason for being just as spineless now?”

Lucien’s explanation clearly didn’t sit well with Maren.

The two had previously come to physical blows. While Lucien lacked Maren’s skill, she recognized his elite

Since recovering her memories, she had encountered few who could match his prowess.

“Look, Dunn is coming out,” he suddenly said, as Dunn emerged from the cafe. Lucien hurried over to greet him.

“Pathetic,” Maren muttered to herself.

She had always handled things head–on, cutting straight through the mess without wasting time. Lucien’s need to play nice and put on a front grated on her nerves like nothing else.

Yet, she couldn’t entirely dismiss Lucien’s approach. Their strategies simply differed.

“Mr. Moreno, please excuse us. My girlfriend can be quite fiery. I hope you don’t mind,” Lucien said as he approached Dunn, even going so far as to open the car door for him.

“Don’t worry about it. I should have come out sooner. It’s understandable why she would be upset.”

Aware of Maren’s presence in the car, Dunn made an extra effort to appear gracious, aiming to gain her favor.

He checked to see if she was in the back seat.

His hope to sit next to her vanished when he found her in the passenger seat, his disappointment briefly visible.

“Miss Morgan, does the Moreno family ring a bell? We’re from Ozel.” Since Maren, clearly had no interest in entertaining him, Dunn chose to toss his family’s name into the conversation. He figured a little reminder of wealth and influence might make her more willing to listen.

However, Maren simply replied, “Can’t say I do.”

Silenced by her disinterest, Dunn cursed inwardly at her apparent ignorance of his prestigious family.

Despite his frustration, Dunn maintained a courteous facade. “That’s okay if you’re unfamiliar. Allow me to enlighten you. We deal in rare antiques, and…”

Before he could continue, the sports car jerked abruptly. His forehead collided with the seat ahead.

“Fasten your seatbelt, Mr. Moreno,” Lucien called out from behind the wheel, barely hiding his amusement. It was obvious he had done it intentionally.

He thought of Maren as untouchable, yet here was Dunn, audaciously. making advances. It seemed like a reckless act.

“It’s nothing. Just a minor bump,” Dunn said, downplaying the incident while striving to remain dignified before

Maren.

In the front, Maren and Lucien shared a complicit grin.

“You’re not entirely without courage,” Maren whispered.

Stepping out, Lucien showcased the shop to Maren and Dunn.
