Higgs, already burdened by guilt, felt a creeping fear take hold of him.

“Relax, Higgs. As long as Calvert dies, it won’t matter even if Maren grows suspicious,” Leon said reassuringly, his voice firm with conviction.

At Leon’s words, a glimmer of hope sparked in Higgs‘ eyes.

It seemed reasonable enough–after all, he had secretly presented the gift to Calvert. Unless Calvert miraculously returned from the grave to point fingers, no one could implicate him.

administer the medicine to Calvert.
