Chapter 329 Nadia Lost Again
Higgs, already burdened by guilt, felt a creeping fear take hold of him.
“Relax, Higgs. As long as Calvert dies, it won’t matter even if Maren grows suspicious,” Leon said reassuringly, his voice firm with conviction.
At Leon’s words, a glimmer of hope sparked in Higgs‘ eyes.
It seemed reasonable enough–after all, he had secretly presented the gift to Calvert. Unless Calvert miraculously returned from the grave to point fingers, no one could implicate him.
Moreover, the gift itself had originally been purchased by Maren and Lucien, meaning they too could easily fall under suspicion.
As this thought took root, Higgs gradually found his fear easing.
Meanwhile, Lucien led Maren to a small room, worry etched deep across his face as he asked, “Maren, are you sure about this?”
With a calm smile, Maren responded, “Don’t worry. There won’t be any problems. Give me ten minutes. In the meantime, make sure no harm comes to your grandfather.”
“Understood!” Lucien answered gravely, his expression solemn.
Ever since the last incident, he had vowed never to leave Calvert’s side again.
With Maren’s assurance, a heavy weight seemed to lift from his shoulders.
Inside the quiet hospital room, time stretched into another tense waiting game, yet this time, Maren moved with swift precision, making the wait far less agonizing than before.
True to her word, Maren emerged exactly ten minutes later, her demeanor composed and steady.
“How did it go?” Lucien rushed to meet her, his voice thick with urgency.
The others hovered nearby, their eyes filled with anxious anticipation.
“It’s done. Give this to him,” Maren said, placing the medicine in Lucien’s hands.
“That’s wonderful!” Seeing the confidence in Maren’s eyes, Lucien’s own heart steadied, and he hurried to
administer the medicine to Calvert.
One by one, they all gathered around Calvert’s bedside, holding their breath.
Unlike the last attempt, within three short minutes, the sickly blue hue on Calvert’s face began to fade, and a healthy flush returned to his cheeks. He was showing clear signs of recovery.

“It’s working!” someone gasped, the words breaking the stunned silence.
The doctors could hardly contain their amazement. “A medical miracle! Truly unbelievable!*
No one rejoiced more fervently than Lucien and the entire Marshall family.
“Maren, we can’t thank you enough!”
“Maren, you’ve saved our family. We are forever in your debt!”
Gratitude poured from every direction, all directed toward Maren.
“You’re Lucien’s family, and Calvert is his grandfather. It’s an honor to help–it’s simply what I ought to do,” Maren said humbly, only deepening their admiration for her.
After the birthday banquet, the Marshalls had already begun softening toward Maren, setting aside her past. After today, they wholeheartedly embraced her as one of their own.
“Not bad–you’ve captured the hearts of the entire Marshall family in record time. Looks like Voutsas will soon be yours,” Sawyer whispered in Maren’s ear.
Maren rolled her eyes at him in playful exasperation.
Calvert had once sought her death, yet here she was, choosing to save him. While she admittedly hoped to gain the Marshall family’s favor, her deeper motivation was Lucien–her ally, and in her eyes, her friend.
Besides, it had been Maren who had pushed Lucien to challenge Higgs, ultimately forcing Higgs‘ desperate move against Calvert.
Thus, saving Calvert now felt less like strategy and more like responsibility.
Furthermore, ensuring the Marshall family’s dominance over Voutsas would bring much–needed stability- chaos was the last thing Maren wanted.
“Actually, I should be thanking Lucien too,” Sawyer mused aloud.
“Why thank him?” Maren asked, genuinely curious.
“Oh, no particular reason. Just feeling grateful, I suppose,” Sawyer replied casually, careful to hide the real
reason–it was thanks to Lucien that he even had the chance to be close to her.
This thought slightly soothed the bitterness Sawyer had felt when he first learned that Maren and Lucien were pretending to be a couple for tactical purposes.
Maren frowned slightly, finding Sawyer’s odd behavior hard to understand.
Meanwhile, Higgs, Leon, and Nadia stood frozen, their faces as pale as ghosts.
They simply couldn’t comprehend how Maren had managed to save Calvert.
“What now, Higgs?” Leon asked, panic creeping into his voice. Just moments ago, he had been basking in dreams of power and prestige, only to watch it all crumble in an instant.
Higgs could only shake his head, his mind blank with helplessness.
“We have no chance now–not with Maren around,” Higgs said grimly. “In fact, I suspect she already knows

about our plan. Forget about killing Calvert. We should be figuring out how to clear our names!”
Clever as he was, Higgs wasn’t as stubborn as Leon. His fear now shifted to the consequences of Calvert waking
A thorough investigation would easily trace the poisoned gift back to him, and then there would be no escaping the charge of attempted murder.
“Dad, stay here and keep watch. I need to go back and destroy the evidence,” Higgs ordered sharply. He had to get back to eliminate any proof of his treachery.
“Alright, go. Hurry!” Leon urged, fully understanding the urgency.
“Okay.” Without another word, Higgs seized Nadia’s arm and bolted toward the hospital’s exit.
However, the moment they stepped outside, Nadia yanked her arm free, glaring at him with fury. “Enough! You worthless fool! You promised to help me get revenge on Maren, and now look what you’ve done! Everything is
ruined!”
Nadia was beside herself with rage, unable to accept yet another humiliating defeat at Maren’s hands.
She simply couldn’t fathom why, no matter how carefully she schemed, she always ended up losing to Maren. She had placed all her hopes in Higgs‘ plan, and once again, Maren had outmaneuvered them at the crucial
moment.
Now, with everything in ruins, she deeply regretted ever trusting Higgs.
