“So Maren saved me. I was oblivious before, but now I understand that Lucien has better insight,” Calvert murmured.

Lucien had endorsed Maren’s capabilities to him, but he had dismissed them and even considered killing her. Now aware that she had saved his life, he felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him.

“Arrange for a lavish gift tomorrow. I intend to visit Maren personally to thank her.” Despite his disdain for the criminal underworld, Calvert was not without fairness.
