Maren chose to remain quiet.

“Let’s be real. You and Wilbur are not as close as us. So what’s the problem with me calling you May?” Sawyer continued when Maren didn’t reply.

Maren asked, “So, what exactly are we, then?”

“We’re partners. And not just partners–together, we’re unstoppable,” Sawyer answered earnestly after a thoughtful pause, eyes sincere.

To her own surprise, Maren couldn’t suppress a quiet laugh. Had Sawyer always been this smooth with his words?

Taking her laughter as a green light, he grinned. “So, can I keep calling you May?”

Instantly, Maren’s brief amusement vanished. “Not a chance.”

“Why not? If it bothers you so much, I’ll even let you call me by my nickname. Isn’t that fair?” Sawyer wasn’t done. “Mine’s…”

“Enough already.” Maren clearly didn’t care about his silly nickname. “If you’re done here, go bother someone else.”

“You really haven’t changed,” Sawyer murmured, giving her a helpless grin.

“I don’t waste my time pretending.” Maren replied coolly, still puzzled by his stubborn insistence on lingering

around her.

Besides, he hardly resembled the person she once remembered.

After finally escaping Sawyer’s presence, Maren quietly headed home.

Approaching the gate, she quickly noticed several TV network vans lined up neatly near the gate.
