Chapter 88 First Collaboration
Wilbur’s gaze immediately grew sharper. He knew that Sawyer was telling the truth. The distinct rose–colored birthmark on Maren’s thigh was visible since her infancy. Every member of the Morgan family knew about it,
and Wilbur had heard about it too.
Yet, it was a secret tightly kept within the family circle, never disclosed to outsiders. This knowledge should
have been confined to the Morgan family and Wilbur alone.
The puzzle was now clear. How could Sawyer, a complete stranger who wasn’t even from Baimsa, know such a detail?
The only reasonable explanation was that he had seen it with his own eyes.
What did this mean for his relationship with Maren?
“That can’t be right. You must have heard it from Maren just to provoke me!”
Wilbur was in denial. Sawyer had shown up out of nowhere, and Maren had never mentioned him before. How had Sawyer managed to be intimate with her before he had the chance?
“I rely on direct evidence, not rumors. I’ve witnessed it firsthand, more than just once,” Sawyer continued, observing Wilbur’s discomfort.
His statement wasn’t a lie. He had indeed seen the birthmark during an intense fight in which Maren’s leg was accidentally cut, tearing her clothing. Their struggle had been brutal, leaving both of them scarred.
Wilbur, however, was unaware of the situation. To him, Sawyer’s detailed knowledge suggested a much deeper
connection with Maren.
“You and Maren…” Anger flushed Wilbur’s cheeks as his ego took a heavy blow. Sawyer’s words felt like the mocking taunts of a conqueror, leaving Wilbur humiliated.
At first, Wilbur dismissed Maren as insignificant and later as nothing more than a whore. However, just as he discovered the truth and tried to win her over, someone else had stolen her from him.
Had it been possible, Wilbur would have killed Sawyer on the spot.
“Mark my words. Maren is mine. If you dare to desire her again, you’ll disappear from Baimsa without a trace.”
Sawyer issued the threat and headed off to find Maren.
To him, Wilbur was nothing more than a fool, unworthy of someone as exceptional as Maren.
However, he couldn’t help feeling somewhat lucky though.
It was lucky though that Maren’s fiance was such a fool.

As Sawyer left, Wilbur clenched his fist and slammed it against the wall.
Wilbur was overwhelmed with rage.
The audacity of this bastard, who had not only taken his fiancee but dared to challenge him physically, was infuriating.
“You think you can make me disappear? Here in Baimsa, on my own turf?” The growing humiliation forced a bitter laugh from Wilbur. “Alright, Sawyer, is it? I’ll make sure you die screaming.”
“What took you so long?”
Maren sat on Sawyer’s motorcycle outside the villa, raising an eyebrow as he walked over.
Sawyer chose to keep the actual events to himself. “It was nothing important.”
He knew all too well that if Maren found out he had fabricated their relationship to provoke Wilbur, she might kill him.
“So, you can’t even afford a car?” Maren teased as she hopped onto the bike behind Sawyer.
The motorcycle stood as it was, its two wheels a sharp contrast to the comfort of a car’s four.
“Two wheels bring more thrill than four could ever offer,” Sawyer answered, his smile unfazed.
This caught Maren’s curiosity.
Cars offered stability, better shock absorption, plenty of space, superior air conditioning, and increased safety. Features that became especially attractive during the summer.
“It’s complicated.” Sawyer kept to himself the fact that the arrangement on the motorcycle required Maren to
sit closer to him.
“Keeping secrets, are we?” Maren asked, sensing his reluctance to explain.
Sawyer just laughed and offered no explanation as he ignited the engine, and drove them towards Morgan
Group.
They had just begun to drive when a man hiding nearby made a phone call. “Sir, the target has left the villa and is on her way to the office. She’s not alone; there’s a man with her.”
“Doesn’t matter. An additional person won’t affect our plans. I have hundreds of operatives ready,” Brooks
responded firmly from the other end.
After driving for a while, Sawyer eased off the throttle and turned onto a quieter street.
“It seems you owe me another dinner,” he said playfully.
“Is that so?” Maren pretended not to know.
“Since you’ve been gone, I haven’t been in a fight. If I get hurt later, make sure you’re there to patch me up,” Sawyer teased.
From the moment he arrived at the villa, he had sensed something was wrong. He had caught a glimpse of a

man making a secretive phone call in his rearview mirror, signaling potential danger ahead.
Not that the fight itself worried him. It would just cost them a bit of time.
Maren scoffed playfully, “You’d better not disappoint then.”
If Sawyer couldn’t handle a few small–time thugs from the Angels of Death, he had no right to claim a rivalry
with her.
Nonetheless, joining forces with him in a team fight still seemed somewhat unnatural.
As they conversed, the motorcycle navigated a street lined with unevenly constructed buildings, their windows
overlooking the road.
“This must be the place,” announced Sawyer as he pulled the bike to a stop.
The street’s layout was perfect for an ambush, just what their pursuers from the Angels of Death would require
if they were following them.
As soon as they stopped, before Sawyer or Maren could even get down from the bike, the unmistakable sound
of bullets being loaded into firearms echoed in their ears.
