The Alpha's can release an aura, forcing lesser supernaturals and humans alike to obey. We are his mate so it doesn't effect us. It wouldn't regardless seeing as we aren't a lesser wolf anyway, but everyone likely just realized that we're his mate. Lilith explained in a bored voice.

"So, she is your mate." Alan declares with a dark laugh. Guess that cat is out of the bag. "My pack will not be handed down to a wolf with a weak human for a mate. Only weak wolves get paired with humans." My temper flared, Lilith and I desperately wanted to show this man just how weak we are. Michael shook his head slightly and pushed me behind him.

"Are you saying you refuse to give me my birth right, father?" Michael hissed.

"That I am, boy." Alan responded in a challenging tone. Michael glanced at Brian then to me and jerked his head toward my other friends before facing his father again. Brian came up behind me, gently grabbed my arm and moved me back a small distance to Thomas before going to stand behind Michael along with Jacob. The entire pack was now surrounding Michael and Alan. Two burly men stepped up behind Alpha Alan. I assume his beta and third.

Thomas stood in front of Brie, Amy and I, and the girls and I held hands. We looked at each other and Amy gave my hand a light reassuring squeeze. This was it. Michael was going to challenge his father. There was so much tension in the air that it felt hard to breathe. I took it all in and desperately reasoned with Lilith to stay back and calm down. She wanted to be by our mate's side, but this was Michael's fight. Even the betas and thirds shouldn't interfere.

"You know what I have to do." Michael's voice seemed to echo around us. He sighed. "I, Michael Lincoln, rightful heir to the Alpha title, challenge you, Alpha Alan Lincoln for the claim of Alpha of Lincoln Heights pack."

The crowd was silent as everyone looked at the two alphas in front of them. It was forbidden for anyone to interfere. I had faith that Michael would persevere, and I hoped the pack would stand behind him when he did. The challenge was to the death or until one of them submitted.

Michael was visibly battered. He had a deep gash along his side, oozing blood and causing his fur to mat to the wound. It was hard to tell if he was injured anywhere else. I looked him over til I got to his face. Across the left side of his face was deep angry claw marks. I couldn't tell if it hit his eye but either way it looked terribly painful. Alan wasn't in much better shape. He was limping and part of his right ear was torn off. I couldn't see any wounds through his fur but the blood dripping underneath him meant he was definitely injured as well.

Alan snapped his teeth at Michael before they ran at each other. They clashed together in a whirl of teeth, claws, and fur. It was hard to tell exactly what was happening. Suddenly a wolf was on the ground with the other on top. The top wolf had his teeth around the others neck. I sighed in relief seeing that it was Michael on top.

Michael growled at Alan, telling him to submit. Alan growled back, not submitting. As if to say, 'I'd rather die than submit to you'. Michael growled again and sank his teeth slightly into Alan's neck. Giving Alan another chance to submit. Alan went limp and turned his head to the side, barring his neck in submission. Finally.
