Timothy knew that he could not shirk his responsibility when something as grave as that took place under his supervision.

Not only would he lose his job this time, he might even be killed.

In a quivering voice, he pleaded, “General, I know there's no way to absolve myself from the blame. However, I sincerely ask you for a chance to redeem my mistake.”

Timothy knew he had screwed up big time.

He needed Nathan to put in some good words for him so that he could be granted a chance to redeem his mistake. Otherwise, he would definitely end up dying.

At first, Nathan was reluctant to accede to his request, considering that Timothy was a man on Boris' side.

Yet, something inspired him to change his mind in the eleventh hour.

Nonchalantly, he asked, “You want a chance to redeem your mistake? Very well, I'll give you that. Make your greatest effort in finding out the mastermind behind this ambush. Also, I want to know how they sneaked into our country and then into this city. How did they get their hands on so many weapons in such a heavily guarded city like Brimmopolis? Someone must have been helping them. Find out that person for me.”

The more Timothy listened to Nathan, the more terrified he was, as he realized that the matter was much more complicated than met the eyes.

Generally speaking, mercenaries will find it hard to sneak their way into Brimmopolis, even if they manage to make it past the border of the nation.Given that they were such a large army, it was difficult to remain

inconspicuous.Brimmopolis has laid down a set of stringent laws to regulate the ownership of weapons. So, someone must have been helping them to gather the weapons. That person must be an extraordinary one.Other than having a distinguished and powerful background, that person must have a feud with the General too. Otherwise, the person would have no reason to help a bunch of people who wanted to kill the General.

After doing some analysis, several big shots who did not see eye to eye with Nathan in Brimmopolis popped up in Timothy's mind.

“Either you get to the bottom of this case and redeem yourself, or you bear the responsibility of your grave negligence. You will risk having your whole life ruined as you will likely face a sentence of life imprisonment.”

Timothy came from a poor family. Through sheer hard work, he managed to come this far to become a man with achievements. In other words, he made his family and his hometown proud.

He did not want and could not accept that his life was going to be ruined.

Gritting his teeth, he told Nathan his decision. “General, I'd like the chance to redeem myself. Please believe me that I will get to the bottom of this and arrest everyone related to it.”

Nathan nodded and acknowledged him, “Great then! I will inform your superior officer to let you be in charge of this case. Yet, I must give you a reminder beforehand - since you have decided to investigate the matter, I expect you to do a thorough job by providing me with all the available details. If brushing me off with a flippant job is what you have on your mind, don't be surprised if I decide to get even with you.”
