Timothy quickly reassured Nathan that he would put his heart and soul into the work.
In fact, he did not have the luxury to choose what he wanted to do next too. At the moment, he fervently hoped that neither Mr. Davier or Mr. Tucker was involved in the ambush, or he would be in deep trouble.
Just then, fleets of black sedans and military jeeps arrived at the scene.
People from the Secret Service as well as the Guardian Special Forces were here.
A group men in black suits led by Hailey and a troop of soldiers led by Will made their way over to Nathan together.
Both Will and Hailey looked nonplussed when they saw the place was in shambles.
Will commanded his men in a stern voice, “Listen to my instruction carefully - cordon off this area and start a siege of this place!”
His assistant quickly responded, “Yes!”
Meanwhile, Hailey too gave instruction to her men, “Put together a team to carry out an investigation!”
“Yes!”
Then, both Will and Hailey greeted Nathan and asked, “General, are you alright?”
Nathan answered in a level voice, “It was a close shave, but I'm alright!”
Will and Hailey let out a sigh of relief jₙ response.
Immediately, they landed their gaze on Timothy.
In an accusing tone, Will confronted him, “Timothy, why is the security of this region so terrible under your watch? I'm sure a severe punishment is awaiting you after something as grave as this took place!”
Timothy wore a glum expression upon hearing what Will said.
In the meantime, Nathan pointed out calmly, “In fact, we shouldn't pin the blame entirely on Chief Carter too. I believe he's rather devastated too to see something like this taking place in his region. So, I just promised him a chance to get to the bottom of the ambush to redeem his mistake.”
Will and Hailey were taken aback by what he said.
The news of the ambush on Nathan soon traveled to the Cabinet.
On the same night, the Cabinet convened an emergency meeting to discuss about the matter. Nathan was invited to attend the meeting too.
Thanks to Nathan's effort, the Cabinet did not mete out any punishment on Timothy right away. Instead, the Cabinet approved Nathan's request to allow Timothy to take charge of the investigation on the ambush to redeem his mistake.
It was four in the morning by the time the meeting was adjourned.
During the meeting, Boris did an admirable job maintaining a calm expression on his face. Yet, as long as he was home, he immediately launched an angry outburst.
Furiously, he snarled at some of his trusted aides, “Damn it, the Armageddon is nothing near how they are hailed to be! All they managed to do was creating a big fuss without killing any of Nathan's men! Not only that, they're causing me a huge trouble too! Now, send someone to tell the Dark Lord to leave the country as soon as possible. His presence here will be a ticking time
bomb for me.”
“Yes, Mr. Tucker.”
