Suspicion welled up in Penny's heart. Still, she couldn't prove if Dennis was in league with the thieves.
Hence, she remained distant but polite when she told Dennis, “Thank you for your help, Mr. Turner. Neither one of us likes to drink, though, so we'll treat you to dinner instead if the opportunity arises in the future.”
Dennis noticed that after Nathan said those words, both Penny and Kylie looked at Dennis differently.
Dam it, now the ladies suspect that I am in league with the thieves in addition to being cautious of me.
Dennis knew that it was no longer possible for him to get together with the two ladies that
night.
He looked terrible when he nodded and said, “Okay, next time, then.”
After saying his piece, he left with his men.
As Dennis walked past Nathan, the former lowered his voice and in a hostile tone said, “How dare you butt into my business, punk? Just you wait. Karma will come for you.”
At first, Nathan strongly suspected that Dennis had something up his sleeves.
The former planned to get Colin to investigate the matter later because he didn't want to accuse an innocent man, nor let a guilty one go.
However, Dennis spat that threat before he left.
That got Nathan to grin.
He knew that he no longer needed to get Colin to investigate the matter because Dennis's words practically confirmed his guilt.
Despite his anger, Dennis planned on leaving with his bodyguards after he had threatened Nathan.
Nathan stopped him. “Hold it right there,” growled Nathan.
Dennis paused. He turned around impatiently and asked, “What other nonsense do you have to sprout?”
Nathan replied calmly, “Were you threatening me when you walked past me?”
Penny and Kylie both looked furious.
Penny cussed, “Assh*le!”
Kylie scolded as well, “Creep!”
Dennis ignored Penny and Kylie. His plans had already been exposed, anyway.
At that moment, he hated Nathan so much that he simply wanted to get back at the guy by infuriating and torturing him.
Dennis' eyes glowed with taunt as he stared at Nathan. The former was especially delighted to see the icy distaste in the latter's eyes. Dennis further challenged, “Hah, are you angry, punk? Are you tempted to punch me? Too bad you're nothing but a poor village sap who is away from home. Do you really dare to hit me? Here, let me put my face right in front of ya. You can try to punch me. I'll just make sure that none of you walk out of this in one piece.”
As Dennis spoke, he shoved his face towards Nathan and taunted the guy.
Everyone had their eyes on Nathan at that moment.
Nathan, on the other hand, was staring at Dennis' ugly face. His hands were itching to throw a punch when he saw that mole on Dennis' chin. My gosh, this face is too inviting! And I've honestly never met someone asking to be slapped.
