When the newcomers approached, it was fairly obvious who the leader was.

It was Jack.

Upon noticing Nathan standing there, Jack froze in surprise. The furious look on his face disappeared and was soon replaced by one of terror.

Not detecting the change in his boss' expression, Daniel was still yammering away in his ears, "Boss, this b****** was acting so cocky! He'd said that even you would have to kneel when you saw him. What do you think?"

Everyone focused their attention on Jack, waiting for him to do something. Daniel, Hank, and Prudence in particular were anticipating a show of his power, as he would viciously beat Nathan up.

To their shock, the man did none of that. Instead, he fell to his knees before Nathan with athump.

The eyes of everyone there bulged out in alarm, wondering if what they were seeing was real.

Daniel stuttered out, "B... Boss... Y... you..."

Ignoring his underling, Jack greeted in a quavering voice, "Master!"

The men that had arrived with him also got down on their knees, calling out, "Master!"

The title had everyone taken aback.

A few seconds later, Daniel remembered that Jack's boss was Thomas Dunn. There were rumors that Thomas had another man whom he had to answer to, a man he referred to as 'Master'.Could that be Nathan Cross?

The thought had all color draining from Daniel's face.

His legs gave way and he fell to his knees as well.

Nathan looked down at Daniel impassively. "I thought you'd said that I would be dead when your boss got here?"

In response, Daniel slumped forward and bowed his head. His whole body was trembling violently and he could not seem to form any words.

"Speak!" Nathan ordered harshly.

According to the rules of the underworld, losing one pound meant chopping off one finger. Two pounds meant two fingers.

Jack took one look at the pale-faced Daniel before nodding. "Yes, Master!"

Standing up, Jack commanded his men, "Drag them to the storeroom."

Soon after Daniel and his cousin were taken to the storeroom, as agonized screams rang out.

A short while later, Jack reemerged with blood spotting his shirt.

The people who had not gone inside the storeroom traded looks with each other. They might not have known about what had gone on inside there, but they could guess that it had not been fun for the two men.

Jack reported to Nathan, his voice respectful, "Master, the two of them have been punished as per your instructions. I'd also managed to get some answers from them. Someone had ordered them to do this.”

Nathan frowned. "Who sent them?"
