Yorick

I knew my mate was in an alliance bond. But knowing it and hearing her speaking to the man who thinks he’s going to take my mate from me, hearing him say that she is his to care for, his betrothed, his future mate – it was more than Thad or I could handle.

Thank the goddess Zach is a strong Alpha with a strong wolf. He kept pace with Thad for hours until I finally felt in control enough to shift. When I did, I collapsed on the ground, sitting with my head in my hands.

“Want to talk about it?” he asks, sitting beside me.

“He called. The asshole who thinks he’s going to take my mate from me called her, asking why she hadn’t called to say that she was safe. He was worried about her and she’s his to protect.” I snarl the last part. “She’s MINE!”

“Of course she is. We just have to figure out how to make him realize that. Do you know why he entered into this type of bond?” he asks.

“No. I’m not sure if Cyra doesn’t know or doesn’t want to talk about it. I’ve been so busy ruining her for him and I haven’t focused on finding out the details. But that’s going to change. We have a year, and I intend to break this alliance bond between now and then.”

“You know we’ll help you, Yorick. All of us will. I havesome ideas but before I bring them up, I want to talk to some people.”

I turn and look at him. “I’m not sure if I should be even more worried than I am that you called me by my name.”

He grins at me. “I can be serious.”

“And you’re a good friend. I needed that. Thad needed that,” | tell him.

“Merric hasn’t had to run that hard in a long time. It was good for him,” he says. I watch him smirk and I’m guessing his wolf had something to say about that.

I stand and extend my hand, helping Zach to his feet. As we walk back, he glances over at me. “You know she’s waiting up for you.”

“Yeah. I’m going to shower then go to her. Even if we – didn’t already spend every night together, Thad would need to be with her tonight, just to prove that she’s safely in our arms and not his. How about you? Are you going to spend the night with Piper?” I ask him.

He raises an eyebrow at me. “What makes you ask that?”

“I’m distracted, not blind,” I tell him.

He sighs. “I planned on it, but she’s probably asleep by now.”

“Sorry, man. I didn’t mean to cockblock you.”

“This was more important. Piper will be there tomorrow. wasn’t sure the guy you were pissed off with would be.”

“If I knew where he lived, he might not have been,” I say.

“Have you mentioned this to your family?” he asks.

“No. I’m trying to prove to them and myself that I can make my own way without my Dad or brother pulling rank. But, I’m not so arrogant that I won’t call them if it means the difference between having Cyra or losing her.”

“You know that might mean war, right?” he asks.

“Yeah. I don’t know about your packs, but ours have been in a lot of wars. I’m not saying I want to arbitrarily send my brother’s and allies’ packs into war, but this is about Cyra. This is about the mate bond and her being mine. My father, brother, brother-in-law, hell even Alpha Henry, will understand that,” I say as we walk inside.

Zach grabs his clothes and follows me to the showers. We both quickly wash the sweat, grass, and dirt off of us, then say goodnight.

I walk to Cyra’s room and just in case, I knock softly. She opens immediately, obviously waiting for me. As soon as I see her, Thad presses forward, needing to be closer to her.

Thankfully, my mate seems to understand and wraps me in her embrace.

When she tells me about Piper’s idea, I wonder if that’s what Zach was referencing earlier. I was serious when Isaid that I would follow any breadcrumb.

The next morning, I wake early, having barely slept. Thad is still restless in my head, so I wake Cyra gently by sliding inside her, showing her with my body how much I love her. When Thad extends his canines, still feeling the need to make her ours, I flip us so she’s on her knees with me behind her. j  o  b  n    i   b   .   c  o    m     I push her hair aside and sink my canines into the back of her neck. Just like before the feel of my canines in her body is enough for Rina and Cyra to respond. She explodes around me, screaming her release as I pin her to the bed, thrusting harder and faster until I find my own release deep inside her.

When I finally release her, sliding out of her body as I pull my canines from her neck, she turns and wraps her arms around me.
