Hacker

“Yorick Hill got booted from class again today,” Tracker says.

I called a meeting between me, her, and Hijack because we all need to be involved in this. It could have affected all of us and I intend to shut this shit down. As usual, we’re meeting in one of our rooms because we’ve put all sorts of jammers in our rooms and on our equipment to keep others from being able to see or hear what we do. Hijack tested it for us and since he couldn’t get in, we know we’re good.

“Yeah, I know,” I say. Hijack hasn’t met the others like Tracker and I have. He’s on a different level of IT tech and is usually only brought in when you need a deeper level dive than what Tracker or I can do.

“We have multiple problems that I want to talk about. First, the one that concerns the Academy and potentially our livelihood. I’ve sent you what I’ve found on Alpha Leo.”

“This is a major problem,” Hijack says. He’s another Alpha male. Where I can be playful and flirtatious, he’s all business all the time.

“Agreed. Hijack, I need you to follow the money, prove that it came from where I say it came from. I followed the early trails, but he got smart in the last couple of years. I would like both of you to check my work so that when we take this to the Board and the Council, and Alpha Leo tries to lie his way out of it, we’ll have it locked up tight.”

“Of course he’ll lie. This is not only career ending, this will cause an uproar in the packs and bring a lot of heat to the Academy. The Board isn’t going to be happy either,” Tracker says as she begins going through the information I’ve provided to them.

“There’s a second fingerprint on this work, Hacker. Is this Sphinx?” she asks.

The ‘fingerprint’ is the trail that identifies who did the IT tracking. Tracker, Hijack and I all have our own individual’ fingerprint’ for our work. Everyone does. It’s how we can tell when someone has modified or changed something trying to make it look like someone else did it. Sometimes you have to dig for it, but there’s always a fingerprint somewhere. It’s also how I know that Alpha Leo is guilty as sin.

“It is,” I say, not surprised that she’s heard of her. I know she has been looking into other things for Yorick and Cyra and I’m not surprised Sphinx’s name has come up.

“You want to tell us who she is?” Tracker asks. I look at her and Hijack. I trust these two implicitly. In this line of work, what we’re doing, we have to trust each other with our lives because most of what we do is in the underground or skates the line of being legal. It wouldn’t take much for any one of us to cause a huge problem for the others, possibly ending our careers or worse, getting us thrown in jail. The Council and other large agencies hire us, and they think they can control us. But the reality is, we’re smarter and have more access to information than they could ever dream.

“She’s not ready for her identity to be known, but since it’s us, I’ll share it,” I say, knowing Hijack could find out if he wanted

to.

“Her name is Wendy Hill,” I say.

“Yorick’s sister?” Tracker asks.

“Yeah, that’s her. She’s got some IT skills. She’s a novice, obviously, but she’s good. She applied to come here next year. I think she’ll make a good addition to our team.”

“You trust her?” Hijack asks.

“Yeah, and not just with this. Obviously she wants to help her brother, but I did a background check on the family. There’s nothing there that gives any indication that they are into anything underhanded,” I tell him.

“I looked into the family too after you sent the information and requested this meeting. I didn’t find anything either. I’m fine with her,” he says, looking at Tracker.

“I didn’t search for her because I figured there was a reason you were keeping it quiet, but if the two of you say she’s good, I trust it,” she says.

“Did you figure out what the trigger was for the change in Alpha Leo?” Hijack asks, not looking away from his computer. I’m sure he’s already starting on his searches.

“Yeah. Six years ago, Alpha Leo’s mate passed away. He started drinking heavily and then started paying for companions. I don’t know a lot about paid companions, but he seems to be paying a lot or maybe he’s developed a kink, I’m not sure.”

Hijack looks up at me. “How expensive?”

“Up to twenty-five hundred dollars a night, not including the liquor.”

“Multiple partners? All night long?” Hijack asks.

“Our Alpha Leo seems to be trying new things. He’s ordering multiple women, men and women, that’s why I think he’s getting into some kinky shit,” I say.

“Is he a participant or a voyeur?” Tracker asks.
