Maximilia was pointing at one of the streets within the city. It seemed slightly different compared to the rest of the city. The grocer she mentioned was actually… Human!
Apart from them, there were actually other people within this kingdom. However, these people weren’t as lucky to be walking around freely. They were being tied up by a group of monsters, drenched in blood, and being sold as food on the streets
“Come, take a look! Fresh human meat! We have live humans too! Rare quality flesh! Does anyone want some?”
“One dollar for five hundred grams! Just one dollar for five hundred grams! You won’t regret spending here! We’re honest sellers…”
The voice came from that very street, shocking Alex and Maximilia to the core.
The one yelling was not human. It had a sharp mouth and the cheeks of a monkey, along with a whole body of fur. Despite that, he was wearing clothes. Upon a closer inspection, they realized that this guy was actually a beast demon, a weasel.
There seemed to be a lot of such demons walking around the street. They looked very weird. Other beasts include rats, giant cockroaches, snake demons, centipede demons, and many others.
The flourishing Kroraina Kingdom was no longer ruled by humans now. It had become a beautiful home for these low leveled beings. Alex’s eyes widened, seemingly intrigued.
Suddenly, Maximilia grabbed him and dashed towards the side, hiding behind the walls. After putting in some thought, she still felt unsafe, so she leaped over the wall with Alex’s arm still in her grasp. Behind the wall was a house, so the two immediately hid inside.
“Maximilia…”
Just when Alex was about to speak, the woman covered his mouth.
A few seconds later, Alex heard something. There were heavy footsteps coming from their previous hiding spot. Then came two deep voices…
“How odd. I thought I saw some humans just now. Where did they go?”
However, he didn’t forget his goal in this journey. He had to look for the eggs of a golden phoenix scorpion.
The street was rather lively at the time. Not only were there hawkers promoting their stock, but people were dancing and singing. As the sun set and the moon rose, the place gave off the vibe of a night market. When Alex looked at the sky again, he noticed just how miraculous it looked. Despite being underneath a desert, the fake sun and moon were uncannily similar to the real ones.
Now, the sun with Golden Crow energy had disappeared into the horizons, replaced by a yellow-orange moon. It was far bigger and brighter than the actual moon as well.
Maximilia then pointed to a row of buildings. “Let’s head to the top!”
The two demons that walked over had already left, so she hugged Alex by the waist and used Feather Walk, leaping up to the air in the dark night. From above, they were able to look at the street better. It was quite crowded, with several stalls selling every single imaginable thing.
Alex couldn’t help but sigh. The citizens of this kingdom had disappeared entirely, and demons had turned it into their own home, opening a market and imitating humans.
