Chapter 23
With that, we made our way out of the building. As soon as I saw the helicopter, my eyes widened.
“A helicopter?” I asked in surprise, turning to Haelor.
He nodded. “Called in one of my subordinates who just happened to be in the area. This should take you home.”
Askhan who’d been silently watching the whole time cleared his throat. “Well let’s get in then. No time to waste. Chop, chop.”
I quickly got over my shock and made my way into helicopter. As the helicopter ascended from the ground, a bit of noise jolted my attention back to the studiq building.
Why are they here?” Askhan asked, his tone filled with displeasure.
I frowned as my remained on the sight below. A couple of reporters were filming me, their cameras panned on our helicopter as it drifted away from the area.
“Just forget it.” Haelor said to me.
I took in a deep breath and sank back into my seat. After a while of simply staring into nothing, I grabbed my mobile phone and began to scroll through my social media.
A notification from the Daily Wolf Pack, an internet news forum, popped on my screen. When I clicked it, my lips dropped into a frown.
There was a picture of me in the plane. The more I read through the article, the angrier I felt myself getting.
They were talking about me flying in a military plane without any military honours, highlighting my ‘extravagant lifestyle and the likes of it.
“Is everything okay, Melanie?” Haelor’s voice broke my focus for a bit.
He had a worried look on his face as he watched me. I nodded my head, my lips pressed into a thin line as I turned back to my phone.
Young journalists don’t know her character yet.
The words had been sprawled at the bottom of the page. All I could do was scoff as I set my phone aside.
They really didn’t know my personality. I for one, would have found the reporter, wherever he was, and dragged him in front of the camera to defend has false claims.”
“You’ve seen the articles, right?” Askhan’s voice brought me back.
I turned to him and nodded my head slowly. He blew out a breath, his hands trembling with anger by his side.
“Don’t think too much about it. That’s the media for you. They’ll use anything for click bait, even if it means spinning as many lies as they possibly can.”
As much as I appreciated his concern over me, I wasn’t the slightest bit bothered by what they were saying. Like Askhan had said, it was all just clickbait, a means for clout.
This didn’t seem right. I turned to Askhan who had an innocent look on his face. There was no way he could have done this. He’d been here with me the whole time.
