“Aty lord, One man stepped forward. “Please have mercy on them.”

“They should be pardoned, my prince. It was but a mistake,” Another lady stepped forward.

“Princess Melanie,” The man turned to me. “Find it in your heart to forgive them. To err is human, but to forgive is the most divine of all.”

“You can forgive them but according me the same sympathy is difficult for you?” I asked, not bothering to push back the coldness form my voice.

I turned to look at Varis who had tears leaking down his cheeks. There wasn’t a single sliver of remorse in my heart for any of them.

The crowd continue to murmur, some still trying to argue in support of Marco and the rest while the others saying words that weren’t quite audible.

I zoned out most of what they were saying, already feeling overwhelmed by everything that was going on.

Without another word, I turned back and began heading inside, not wanting to watch what would happen next.

My mind was reeling with different thoughts that threatened to send me into another spiral. The whole divorce farce seemed to be over. At the very least, no one had talked about it if not Bella and her cronies.

There was something else that weighted my mind down. The fact that my wolf still hadn’t come.

I couldn’t turn.

No matter how hard I tried, regardless of how hard I tried to focus, it just wouldn’t happen. My heart thumped hard against my chest as the thought weighed harder on me.

I was in deep waters.

There was no way I could protect myself if something happened. My mind went back to a day when I’d come home and I was in danger.

A shiver went down my spine as the image of Jack’s sinister smile plastered itself in my head. I needed to know the truth. And to do that, I’d have to confront Jack about the truth.

I called for my nanny who wasted no time in coming to meet me. Her head was bowed a little as she watched me. Emma was standing by her side, watching me with curious eyes. I couldn’t help but look in awe of my daughter. How could someone so little be the cutest thing ever?

I cleared my throat, turning back to the nanny. “I’m going to need you to take care of Emma. There’s somewhere I need to be.”

“Yes, princess.” The nanny nodded her head.

“Mommy,” Emma started innocently. “Where are you going?”
