Idropped to my knees, unable to stop clutching my chest. It felt like I had been shot right at the chest with a silver indiet

The world was slowly fading into darkness and there was barely anything I could do about it. The last thing I remembered before I finally gave in was the worried face of Troy as he watched me.

The first thing I expected to see when I woke up was Troy’s face staring at me with worry, I did not expect to see that of a royal prince,

Trying to get my eyes open felt like fighting back against an unknown force. It felt like someone had placed sandbags on my eyes, leaving me unable to open them.

“Melanie. Thank the goddess you’re finally back.” He said, relief bleeding into his tone,

“You collapsed. Some people brought you here.” Askhan explained, his gaze remaining on me as he watched me carefully,

While I nursed the headache that racked my head, I couldn’t help to think back to Troy and how worried he must have been

“I’m just glad you’re fine.” Askhan let out another breath of relief.

“Come on, Askhan.” I laughed.

“No,” He shook his head. “You have no idea how worried I was.”

“You’ve been here all this time?” I asked with an amused tone.

He turned his head to the side, his cheeks suddenly blooming. “What do you think?” 

I couldn’t help the laugh that left my lips. “You’re the prince, Askhan. You can’t just leave your duties at the palace to stay by my side. Won’t you get in trouble?”

“That’s not important.” He interjected. “What matters right now is your health and how you’re feeling.”

I couldn’t help the warm feeling that bloomed in my chest. He had been so worried about me that he refused to even budge from my side for the smallest second.

“Thank you.” I beamed, unable to hold back the smile that tugged at my lips.

He nodded his head, a serious look washing over his face. “Is there something you’re not telling us?”

I bit my lip, contemplating if I wanted to open up to him. On one hand, it would feel good to finally open up and relieve myself of the weight that laid heavy on my chest.

Then again, I couldn’t burden anybody with what I was going through. It would be better if I went through it by myself, without worrying anybody or making them concern.

“There’s nothing. What makes you ask that?” I stared at him curiously.

The look of concern on his face was still there. “Don’t lie to me, Melanie. Is something bothering you?”

I shook my head, forcing a small smile on my face. “I’m fine, Askhan. Believe me. If there was something wrong, I’d tell you straight away.”

He didn’t look like he was all that convinced but slowly nodded his head. Letting out a breath, he sank back into his chair, his eyes never leaving mine for fear that if he looked away, I might just disappear.

. The smile remained on my face but deep down, my heart remained bitter. None of them could know that I couldn’t turn.

The door slowly slid open and two men walked in. They were both watching me carefully as they sent the door.
