It was as if the two pieces were originally part of a set.
Could it be that the Reed family's heirloom was truly a set with this necklace?
Evelyn examined it repeatedly in surprise, unable to shake her suspicion. Then, she slowly furrowed her brow.
Had Lucas left it here?
She was certain there had been nothing on the nightstand when she had gone to bed last night.
Was this supposed to be a birthday gift?
She was not particularly shocked. Lucas had always arranged gifts for her in the previous years. He had a meticulous nature and gentlemanly manners. Even with his distant personality, he maintained basic courtesies.
He would not pretend not to know something he was aware of.
But they were already divorced.
Evelyn only looked at the necklace for a few seconds before closing the box and putting it away.
She planned to ask Deborah if the pieces were actually a matching set.
If they weren't, she had no reason to keep it. If they were, she would not accept it for free.
She was heading back to Clementon today. Her flight was in the afternoon.
Yesterday, Graham had asked her to meet again this morning to discuss what they had gained from the trip.
Sebastian had already gone over early in the morning.
Evelyn quickly packed her things and went upstairs.
As Brandon exited his room and went round the corner, he happened to see Evelyn knocking on Graham's door, then stepping inside.
His brow immediately furrowed in confusion.
Why would Evelyn be looking for Graham? Was Sebastian in there too?
Unable to make sense of it, he headed downstairs.
Lucas and the others were already seated and having breakfast.
Tiffany looked sleep-deprived. She was sipping a cup of coffee while massaging her temples.
Mason looked at her with concern. "What's wrong? Didn't sleep well?"
Jason also looked up.
Tiffany shrugged. "I was reading through some of the books recommended by Professor Hill. They're definitely tough reads. I talked through some of my thoughts with Lucas and barely got two hours of sleep."
Mason gave her a meaningful look. "So you two were together for the rest of the night?"
Tiffany immediately shut her mouth and smiled, quickly steering the conversation elsewhere. "I just asked Professor Hill's assistant if I could talk with him about my takeaways, but apparently he's busy and declined."
Brandon had just walked over and heard their conversation.
He sat down and said, "Professor Hill is busy? I just saw Evelyn going into his room."
That caused changes in everyone's expression.
He was right; the Hill family would not accept a woman with no real accomplishments.
At that moment, they saw Evelyn and Sebastian walk over together.
Evelyn's expression was unreadable, but Sebastian looked utterly dejected.
He had the look of someone who had brought a woman home only to be turned away at the door.
Their guesses might not be far from the truth.
Evelyn did not notice the glances directed their way. She just patted Sebastian on the shoulder comfortingly.
"Hang in there. Professor Hil is a perfectionist. Everyone gets scolded. You're his son, so it's normal that he expects more from you."
Sebastian sighed helplessly. He was among the top young academics in the country, yet he still got verbally torn apart by Graham. This was all because of the freakishly gifted Evelyn being his comparison.
As they approached the group, Mason waved them over. "Mr. Hill, rough morning? Come join us."
Evelyn cast a calm glance at them.
Lucas looked up with his legs crossed, saying nothing.
She was just about to politely decline when a commotion broke out near the entrance.
The hotel manager's respectful voice was heard.
"Mr. Grant is just inside. Right this way."
