Everyone instinctively turned their heads toward the commotion.
Evelyn was momentarily stunned. From the entrance, a crowd of people streamed in.
Leading them was a lady with striking beauty. Her eyes carried a sharp edge honed by experience.
No one expected Sharron to show up in Pearlia for an impromptu inspection.
Mason and the others immediately straightened up.
After Sharron walked in and heard the manager's words, she nodded. "Lead the way."
She had flown here at the last minute and did not anticipate running into Lucas here.
The manager quickly gestured politely. "Mr. Grant is in the restaurant, along with his girlfriend."
Sharron's steps faltered for just a fraction of a second.
Gliding across the floor in her heels, she soon caught sight of Tiffany seated beside Lucas.
Almost immediately after, she noticed Evelyn sitting not far away too.
Her eyes narrowed slightly, clearly surprised by the situation.
Sharron glanced at Lucas, only to see that he was calm and composed, as though the scene before him posed no challenge at all.
"Mrs. Grant." Jason greeted her first.
Mason and the others followed suit with their own greetings.
Tiffany gave a polite nod but did not attempt to engage in conversation.
Sharron acknowledged them with a slight nod. "I'm here to inspect the site. Don't mind me."
She did not speak directly to Tiffany, choosing to let her gaze sweep past her instead.
"Lucas, come with me for a moment," Sharron said. Just before turning away, her eyes briefly flickered to Evelyn.
As for the others present, she did not address them at all.
Lucas stood up and followed Sharron out.
Brandon, who had never met Sharron, caught something in their interaction. He turned to Tiffany, asking, "Mrs. Grant never met you before?"
Sharron seemed unfamiliar with Tiffany. She did not even greet her directly.
Tiffany was exceptional, so there was no way Sharron would be unsatisfied by her.
Mason rubbed the bridge of his nose and glanced at Tiffany.
Jason, meanwhile, was frowning as he discreetly observed Evelyn.
Thankfully, Evelyn did not show any signs of being affected. She did not reveal any hints about her being Sharron's daughter-in-law.
It was as if she saw them all as strangers.
As for Brandon's question, Tiffany calmly sipped her coffee and said, "It wasn't the right setting for a proper introduction."
Brandon finally understood.
Indeed, with so many bystanders around, it was not the ideal time to engage in conversation with Tiffany. It would not count as a proper meeting either.
Still, he glanced back at Evelyn.
Was it just his imagination?
When Sharron left earlier, she seemed to glance at Evelyn. But why?
…
Lucas followed Sharron into her office. She turned to face him, signaling for him to close the door shut.
"Did Evelyn not make a fuss?" Sharron frowned. "You sat Tiffany right in front of her. If she'd gotten emotional and revealed your marital status to the public, the fallout wouldn't be good."
Lucas' expression was calm. "She wouldn't."
Sharron did not understand his words, but she still continued, "With this many people around, things can easily spiral out of control. You should keep her emotions steady."
When she came downstairs, most of the group was already waiting for their transport.
Several companies were taking advantage of this trip to plan their next strategies.
Not far away, Quint spotted her and walked over immediately. "Ms. Reed, everyone was enjoying the barbecue downstairs last night. Why did you not join us?"
Sebastian happened to walk over and answered for her, "Yesterday was her birthday, and we were celebrating it together."
Quint was surprised and quickly said, "Happy belated birthday."
Evelyn smiled. "Thank you."
After a brief moment of hesitation, Quint added, "Ms. Reed, could we exchange contact information? We'll probably have more chances to discuss matters on the field after we're back in Clementon."
Evelyn did not turn down his request. She could tell that Quint was a genuine and straightforward person.
They exchanged numbers before Evelyn and Sebastian went off to find Graham.
Nearby, Jason had noticed the exchange and walked over. "Mr. Harrow, you seem pretty familiar with Ms. Reed. What did you two talk about?"
Quint replied, "It was her birthday yesterday, so I wished her a happy birthday."
Jason's expression shifted at once. It was Evelyn's birthday?
But Lucas was with Tiffany yesterday.
Quint did not notice the change in Jason's expression. He exclaimed with admiration, "Ms. Reed is one of the most insightful young minds I've ever met. Mr. Holt, have you considered recruiting her?"
Jason looked surprised. It was rare for Quint to speak so highly of someone.
"Recruit her?"
"Yes. I only spoke with her briefly, but she has unique insights into drone technologies. She's incredibly sharp!" Quint's face was full of admiration.
That froze Jason in place, changing his expression altogether.
Evelyn knew a lot about drones?
