Chloe hadn't expected Steven to be so stern. She immediately said, "No, I just wanted them to break up!"

Chloe felt sorry to see Steven struggling to get over his heartbreak, but she never had any ill intentions. She couldn't believe Steven thought that of her! Chloe felt as though her sincerity had been betrayed.

Steven cried and laughed, saying, "They won't break up, Mom. Doing that will only strengthen their relationship and add to my guilt."

"Mom, did you know? Lately, when I'm home, I can't help but think about the years I spent with her. When she delivered the baby, I asked you if I should give her money.

"You said no—you said she should feel honored to be married to me and that she deserved the suffering. At that time, I agreed with you. But now, I suddenly realized how cruel that was."

Steven continued calmly, "When she was with me, she became a housewife and took care of me. She had no means of making money, and you disallowed me from giving her money.

"Where did she find the money to pay for her medical bills when she delivered the baby? She saved all of that money when she worked away during her pregnancy. What if she didn't work because she had to prioritize her health?"

Steven turned to stare at Chloe and asked, "Did you ever consider how she was supposed to deliver the child?"

Chloe muttered, "I didn't know you didn't give her any money."

Steven sneered and continued, "Later, I stopped giving her any money. You suggested that, too, right?"
