Sophia grimaced and handed it over.

More customers came in, and Roger and his coworkers returned to work. 

Roger reflected on his bad luck. He truly had been a fool, losing everything because he believed in Sophia’s supposed love. Now he could see that he had also been deceived by his own mother’s prejudices, which ruined not just his marriage but his family life as well.
