“That’s good; it means he’s growing well,” the doctor said, picking him up. “Let’s measure you, champ,” he said, carrying the baby to the scale and measuring tape “Wow 62 cm. Hehe, you’ve really grown, last month you were 57,” he said, looking at the baby’s chart. “And let’s see… oh, you’ve gained weight too. Last month you were 4.3 kg, and now you’re 5 kg.” 

“Phew. I knew he was heavier,” Jayden joked, making faces to make James laugh. 

“This little guy is growing up,” Deborah said, coming over to hug her baby, who had been calm while the doctor examined him. 

James babbled happily. 

“I’m pleased to say he’s growing normally,” the doctor said, returning to his desk. “And tell me, how is the night routine going?” 

“He’s slowly getting used to it and now only cries once a night,” Jayden said, relieved not to be living with raccoon eyes anymore. 

“I told you, it’s just a phase,” the doctor said, noting some things in James’s medical file. “But now that he’s 3 months old, we’re moving into a new stage.” 

“Hm?” the parents asked. 

“Soon, you’ll notice that James will start putting everything in his mouth,” the doctor said, observing James sucking on his hand. 

“Oh, son…” Jayden said, pulling his hand away and listening to his laughter. 

“Don’t worry, it’s normal for babies to start exploring the world this way, though it’s dangerous, so you need to keep a close eye on him.” 

“Understood, we’ll be very careful with him,” Deborah said, wiping away excess saliva from the baby’s mouth. 

This is where toys with different textures come in handy, as he’ll be preparing for when his teeth start coming in a few months,” the doctor said, watching James smile and put his hand back in his mouth. 

“Nuuu…” Deborah said, making the baby laugh as he refused to move his hand.

The doctor smiled at their comments and, after giving them some advice on dealing with the heat and ensuring James didn’t get sick from the climate change, they left. 

On the way back to the car, they stopped at the pharmacy to pick up Grandpa’s vitamins. 

“Well, now we’re off to lunch with Grandpa and Uncle,” Deborah said, putting the medicine in the diaper bag 

“James loves going out,” Jayden said, observing James’s excitement as he moved his head from side to side, taking in everything that caught his attention. 

“Yes,” Deborah said, taking her beloved’s hand as they began to walk together. 

Once they got into the car, they headed to the restaurant where they were expected. 

But upon arrival, they were surprised to find that in addition to them, Roger was also present. 

Seeing him, Jayden frowned, becoming serious and ready to protect his partner and child. 

“Deborah, Jayden,” George greeted, standing up to approach them. “Come, sit down.” 

“James,” Elliot greeted the baby. 

James smiled, excited to see his uncle. 

“May I ask what this means?” Jayden asked, clearly annoyed as he pointed to Roger. 

“Is there a problem, Cooper?” 

“Yes… your presence bothers me, Peterson.” 

“Jayden, love…” Deborah hugged him and tried to calm him down before looking at the older man. “Sorry, but why is he here?” 

“I’m not here to get friendly,” Roger said, glancing at the baby. “Let’s just say I have something to tell you that’s so important you’ll thank me in the end.” 

“Ah?” Deborah and Jayden exchanged puzzled looks before turning their attention back to Roger, who looked confident and assured. 

They took their seats and prepared to listen to what Roger had to say about something that had happened the day before.
