“You’re in the wrong place. Turn around and leave if you want to live,” one of the men declared. 

“Good morning,” Deborah greeted as she got out of the vehicle. 

“Boss…” Max sald worriedly, reaching for his weapon to protect her. 

“Relax, Max,” she said, stopping him from acting while pulling something out of her bag to show them. “I’d like to speak with Vox, please,” she declared, holding up a black card. 

Upon seeing the object, all the guards lowered their weapons, and the one who appeared to be the leader approached to take the card and verify its authenticity 

“Welcome, Mrs. Cooper. Please follow me,” he said, handing the card back to her. “I just need your guard to leave his weapon with us.” 

“Of course, Max, please.” 

“But…” 

“Relax. Vox doesn’t usually attack his clients.” 

Max made a face but obeyed, handing his weapon to the men before following Deborah. 

They were led to an area that looked like a living room, where they took a seat while they waited. 

“Hi,” a little voice caught both of their attention.. 

Deborah saw a little red–haired boy, around six years old. “Hello.” 

“Will you play with me?” he asked, showing her some toy cars 

“Sure,” she replied, taking the toy car he offered and sitting next to the boy to play racing games on the nearby table. 

Max smiled and joined the game, much to the little boy’s delight. 

Brandon was curious about Deborah’s visit, as he never imagined she would seek his services. 

When he went to see her, he smiled at the lovely scene of his son playing with his guests. 

“Honey, have you seen…” Brandon’s wife, Laura approached him, but he gestured for her to be quiet and pointed to the living room. “Aw… how sweet.” 

“Hm… it looks like Joshua has already made new friends.” 

“That’s why I keep telling you we should arrange playdates so he can have more little friends.” 

T’ll consider it, dear.” 

Laura simply smiled and walked over to Deborah. “Hi, Debbie.” 

“Hi.” 

“Mommy!” 

“Come here, sweetie,” Laura said, picking him up and giving him a kiss on the cheek.

“Looks like my son already beat me to starting the meeting.” Brandon joked, walking over to them. 

“Daddy, Mommy, they played with me,” Joshua sald happily. 

“Yup, we saw. Now come, Joshua, let’s go see your grandparents,” Laura said, saying goodbye to Deborah 

and Max as she left. 

“Bye–bye,” Joshua waved at them as he was carried away. 

“Bye,” Deborah waved back at the boy. “He’s a very sweet child.” 

“It seems you’re still a great mom,” Brandon commented, taking a seat. “So, what’s the miracle? I thought you’d never use your card.” 

“Let’s just say things have gotten complicated,” Deborah said, getting comfortable on the sofa. 

“Yes, I’ve heard about the problems Jayden is facing,” Brandon said, frowning slightly. “So, do you want me to destroy the competition? Or… are you going to show me that sadistic side of yours again and ask me to kill the guy?” 

Max got scared when he heard those options. 

I do want to destroy the competition, but let’s say I want to do it in a public and legal way that will help Jayden.” 

“Boo… you’re taking away all the fun,” he said playfully. “So…” He began speaking and saw Deborah take a piece of paper from her bag to give to him. 

“I want you to investigate these aspects of that new company. It’s not normal for them to secure such lucrative contracts just a few months after arriving in the city. It’s also strange how they’re directly targeting Cooper Construction, trying to damage the main company and the subsidiaries.” 

“You think someone has something against you?” 

“That’s what I want to find out because the competition was directed at us, and it’s not like the market was monopolized.” 

“That’s true. Honestly, I also feel like something’s fishy,” Brandon said. 

“Very much so, which is why I want you to help me find out these things. Jayden tested the materials they use, and they’re of very poor quality, so I don’t understand why no one’s complained about them yet, or worse, why nothing bad has happened.”
