Chapter 110
The sun rose. Felix had finished his morning routine and was pacing back and forth in his
room.
He was debating whether he should approach Warren and seek forgiveness. Hugo’s troubling actions toward Warren weighed heavily on Felix’s conscience.
He remembered clearly from his childhood that even Matthew had said more than once that Warren had a straightforward personality and would never let himself be taken advantage of. Yet now, because of him, Warren was trampled by Hugo and didn’t dare say a
word.
Even though Felix had already dealt with Hugo, and Hugo’s time was running out, he couldn’t openly acknowledge it.
Just then, Kane’s call came through. “Mr. Zeller, I’ve found out that Warren left early this morning and is at the office of Concord Bank’s deputy manager.”
Unable to contact Warren directly, Felix had asked Kane to find out.
“Got it.” After hanging up, Felix made up his mind and drove to Concord Bank.
Half an hour later, in the office of Concord Bank’s deputy manager, Warren was pleading earnestly, “Alex, wasn’t the loan supposed to be fine? Why was it suddenly rejected? My company desperately needs that money.”
Alex Barrett’s face was stern. “Warren, to be honest, I only said I’d try to help, not that it was guaranteed. If we weren’t old classmates, you wouldn’t even have gotten through my door.”
Warren’s expression shifted, and he tried again. “Did someone interfere? Is that why my loan was rejected?”
He thought of Hugo, who had both threatened his company and had the capability to act on
However, this remark offended Alex, who immediately made a gesture to show him out. “Interfere? Warren, do you think so little of me? If I wanted to mess with you, I wouldn’t be so roundabout. Besides, it’s just a 200–million–dollar loan.
“By normal procedures, you wouldn’t even qualify to approach me, but I still tried to help. The rejection is due to issues with your company, not because I manipulated anything.”
Warren quickly apologized, “No, Alex. I—”
“Enough! Get out. I’m deleting your contact details.”
