When Averill saw Felix’s expression, she became puzzled as well. “Don’t you know why Leslie needs to see you?” 

Felix felt like an idiot, completely lost in this conversation. “Did something happen?” 

“I’m not here because of your online messages. I’m here specifically under Mr. Hoffman’s orders,” Averill explained. 

The mention of Gerald made Felix realize the gravity of the situation. His eyes turned cold with concern as he asked, “What happened to Leslie?” 

“She went somewhere and was poisoned with something rare–even Mr. Hoffman hasn’t seen it before and can’t cure it. He immediately sent her to find you. Since I was already in Canraville, Leslie asked me to give you a heads up.” 

Felix felt both anxious and helpless. “How can I help if even Mr. Hoffman can’t cure it?” Averill nodded confidently. “If Mr. Hoffman says you can do it, then you definitely can. I don’t know the details, but Leslie will arrive in Canraville around 11:00 pm tonight. Just wait at home, and she’ll find you. I need to go now. I’ve got some errands to handle.” 

With Averill gone, Felix was left with nothing but questions. If Leslie could travel on her own, her condition could not possibly be too severe. If that were the case, what kind of poison was it? 

After mulling it over without any answers, Felix decided to set aside his worries. He would find out everything when he saw Leslie that evening. 

Meanwhile, in a private room at a restaurant, Michelle had just finished making her birthday wish and gazed lovingly at the handsome man beside her. 

“Jude, this is my happiest birthday ever. Thank you!” Michelle exclaimed. 

Jude Austin, her boyfriend of three months, smiled warmly. “Silly girl, I’ll celebrate your birthday every year from now on with endless surprises. Come on, let’s have a toast!” 

Michelle hesitated at the offered wine. “I–I better not. You know my tolerance—one glass and I’m out“. 

A college reunion had taught Michelle about her low alcohol tolerance, and as a girl, she hád avoided drinking since. It had even affected her real estate sales, as clients often preferred agents who could socialize over drinks. 

Jude smiled gently and handed her the glass. “Are you afraid of me? It’s your birthday— one exception won’t hurt. Just take a small sip.”
