Cyrus had trampled on her heart as if it were nothing but a piece of trash on the street.

Nancy cursed inwardly, ‘Cyrus, you don't deserve anyone's sincerity.’

Nancy forced herself to stay calm, clenching her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms, yet she didn't even notice the pain.

Her phone, lying on the floor, buzzed again.

Nancy quickly grabbed it, half-expecting another message from Hayley, but it was a text from the identity cancellation department.

[Ms. Gonzalez, don't forget to drop off your paperwork at the office in two days. If you don't, the cancellation process might get delayed.]

Nancy took a deep breath, her eyes shimmering with sharpness and determination. Just a little longer, just a few more days, until she could leave Cyrus behind for good, never having to see that hypocrite again.

After spending two days in the hospital, Nancy hadn't seen Cyrus once. However, Hayley constantly updated on what Cyrus was up to - cooking meals or basking in the sun. Busy with life, he couldn't bother with anything else.

Nancy ensured she was the first at the police station to hand in her identity cancellation form.

Alexis, the officer processing her paperwork, said, “Ms. Gonzalez, now that you've submitted your application, the process should move along more quickly. I'll contact you if we need anything else.”

“Thank you. I appreciate it,” Nancy replied before standing up and walking out.

When standing at the police station's entrance, the sun warmed Nancy, making her feel a bit more hopeful. Just a little bit longer, and she would be free.
