Baldrick said nothing and silently slapped a Band-Aid on Nancy's knee before standing up to shield her.
At that moment, their proximity seemed to shrink significantly, not to mention Baldrick's scent fully enveloping her as it made its way into her nostrils.
Feeling a bit overwhelmed, Nancy stepped back to put some space between them. Looking hurt, Baldrick asked, "Nancy, am I just a colleague to you?"
"We can be friends, but nothing like what Miss Lucy imagines with her quid pro quo relationships." Nancy's expression was serious. "Or is it your opinion that my creations aren't enough to impress you, Mr. Robertson?"
"That's not it. Working with you is about sharing a vision!" Baldrick quickly interjected.
Seeing Nancy's irritation, Baldrick hurried to clarify. "Nancy, I lied. My dealings with Lucy's father are strictly business, but they've become some debt to Lucy, who expects marriage in return. Refusing her doesn't seem to work. I swear she's out of her mind."
Nancy thought, ‘Lucy must have lost her mind to have meddled in Baldrick's business like that, especially when there's nothing between them.'
"Don't be mad, Nancy. Let me take you to the theater. The new set design is ready, and I promise you'll love it!"
Not keen on discussing Lucy further, Nancy nodded, "Let's have a look then."
The sooner they got this over with, the better. Mixing work with personal drama was never appealing.
As Baldrick was about to take Nancy out, a steady knocking came from the firmly shut door.
James's voice respectfully floated in from outside again. "Mr. Robertson, Designer Lenard is here. He says it's urgent and needs to speak with Miss Lena."
Nancy barely had a moment to react before Judson wrapped his arms around her tightly, leaving no room for escape.
Baldrick's expression darkened. "Judson, who invited you over?"
He had barely managed to get some alone time with Nancy.
Not just Baldrick, Nancy too, pushing against Judson's shoulders, frowned and said, "Judson, have you forgotten what we talked about?"
Hearing Nancy's reprimand, Judson immediately panicked, shaking his head. "Babe, no, Lenard insisted on coming over. Right, Lenard?"
Being the center of attention and facing an unspoken warning in their glances, particularly Judson's, Lenard quickly nodded. "Yes, Nancy, I brought Judson over. I went to your place and only found Judson there, looking pitiful. Potter called me at the last minute for a contract signing. So, Nancy, could you watch Judson for a bit?"
