"This... is also one of the reasons I didn't want to go home." Shannon sighed.

"About seventeen or eighteen years ago, I met Cassius and wanted to marry him.

"But my father disapproved of our marriage because he considered Cassius beneath our family's status and not a suitable match.

"Later, I happened to overhear him and a few others having a secret conversation in the study room. So, I used that as leverage to force him to agree to our marriage."

After hearing this, Kingsley put down his cutlery.

"Secret conversation? What important matter were they discussing that could make him agree to marry off his daughter?" he asked curiously.

Cassius chimed in, "Yes. You haven't told me the details all these years, and I've been very curious."

"They were discussing to kill someone." Shannon took a deep breath.

"It was an extremely heinous act, and I-I didn't want anyone to know about it."

Her eyes started to well up with tears.

"But today, the Timothys came to our door, trying to bring me home forcefully. And, Boss Nicholson, you saved Cassius. It's like saving our whole family.

"So, I'm willing to tell you what happened back then.

"I believe that once you hear it, you'll understand why I don't even want to see my father."

Kingsley nodded silently. He understood that Shannon feared he would see her as a heartless and ungrateful person.

That's why she chose to reveal the truth, seeking his protection for herself and her family.

"On that day, my father was in a good mood. He said he had acquired some information from the black market. And that information happens to confirm his suspicions," Shannon narrated slowly.

"Seeing him in a good mood, I tried again to get his approval for my marriage with Cassius. But he simply waved his hand and chased me out of the study room.

"However, I couldn't just accept that. I hid in a nearby room and waited until all his guests arrived. Then, I sneaked out and eavesdropped on their conversation."

As she spoke, Shannon's mouth felt dry, so she picked up a glass of water and took a sip.

Kingsley took this opportunity to ask, "Who were the guests he invited?"
