Chapter 339 

Upon hearing these words, Walter’s expression tightened, becoming completely dark and brooding. 

“Grandma.” Fiona was both shocked and happy. When she learned Grandma was critically ill, she rushed to the hospital only to be told that Grandmother didn’t want to see her. 

At that moment, Fiona was heartbroken. She was panicked, not understanding why Grandma suddenly couldn’t hold on, nor why she was being stopped from seeing her one last time. 

But now, hearing what Grandma said, it broke her heart as Grandma, who had always been proud, would beg Walter for her sake. Fiona thought, ‘Even on her deathbed, Grandma was thinking of and caring about me! 

Fiona was heartbroken and full of guilt and regret. Yet, meanwhile, a small sense of relief sneaked in. In such a crucial moment, Walter, who valued relationships highly, would definitely not refuse Grandma. Once he made a promise, he would never break it.

“Walter, I know you value loyalty and honor. When your mother had complications giving birth to you, it was the top medical team of the Banks family that saved you from disaster. 

“It had been a long time and I don’t want to use it as a demand, but I can’t trust anyone else with my granddaughter, only you,” said Jaslene.

Levi and Brian stood nearby, with their expressions heavy with concern. Jaslene’s request was clearly a kind of emotional blackmail. They felt it was unfair to Walter, but they weren’t in a position to voice this. 

Without glancing at Fiona, Walter kept his deep gaze on Jaslene on the screen, and his thin lips were pressed together. After a moment, under everyone’s gaze, Walter finally spoke. 

“Jaslene, rest in peace.” Tears fell from Fiona’s eyes as she instinctively forced a smile. 

“The life–saving grace from years ago has been repaid many times over by my grandfather and father to the Banks family. I’m sorry, but I cannot fulfill your request,” said Walter. 

Walter’s words were firm and powerful, with each one spoken with determination. In an instant, Fiona’s expression froze in a weird, half–smile twist. 

Walter’s answer was completely unexpected to her. Fiona thought, ‘He refused. He went so far as to say no.’ 

There was a long silence from Jaslene, and finally, using the last of her strength, she instructed Fiona in a quivering tone. “Where is Ms. Nelson? I want to have a word with her.” 

Fiona broke down, turning the phone towards herself. “Grandma. At a time like this, why don’t you want to see me?” 

“Give it to Ms. Nelson,” said Jaslene. 

Shakira came out of the room, having been listening from behind the door. She walked up to Fiona and extended her hand. “Give it to me.”

Chapter 339 

Fiona lifted her gaze, glaring at Shakira with a fiery rage that seemed like it could consume her whole. Though unwilling. she had no choice but to follow Grandma’s instructions, reluctantly placing the phone into Shakira’s hands. 

“Ms. Nelson, please step aside. I need to tell you this privately,” said Jaslene.

sports car. 

Walter furrowed his brows and called out. “Stop her, Brian. Make sure you take her to the hospital yourself.” 

“Gotit,” replied Brian. 

The flashy red sports car sliced through the night, speeding away. Brian drove as fast as he could, getting Fiona to Harborview Medical Center quickly. 

Fiona stumbled into the ward, finding Jaslene fully covered by a white sheet. All the equipment that once showed life signs had been removed. The entire room was steeped in a somber silence. 

Fiona couldn’t control herself anymore and collapsed by the bed, crying her heart out. “Grandma, why did it have to end like this? Why didn’t you want to see me one last time?” 

“How could you be so heartless? I haven’t even had a chance to talk to you, and now I’ll never see you again or hear your voice,” continued Fiona. 

Brian watched the scene unfold, nodded to the Banks family, and then left the hospital. 

Fiona cried for a long time before suddenly remembering something. She sprang up, turned, and grabbed a nearby nurse, with her eyes red and full of anger. 

“You’re all useless, a bunch of losers,” cried Fiona. 

“When I visited her yesterday, Grandma was perfectly fine and smiled at me, asked if anyone had been bullying me, assured me that anyone who treats me poorly would disappear,” cried Fiona.
