Chapter 105
There was a glitter of triumph in Madeline’s eyes. As it she didn’t see their gossipy colleagues, she went and closed the door.
“Maddie, my mom is going to divorce Daddy…” Jacob said.
Madeline turned around and heard the “good” news.
Jacob looked at her helplessly and was about to cry.
“How could this be?” Madeline was overjoyed in her heart, but pretended to be confused and said, “Why does Jessica want a divorce all of a sudden? You’re only six years old. How could she bear to leave you?”
Halfway through speaking, she seemed to realize that what she said might hurt Jacob.
“Jake, is Jessica really going to divorce Mr. Atkinson?” Madeline asked with hesitation.
Jackson had tried to hide it from her, but Jacob had come to tell her in person.
So the court summons she saw in the CEO’s Office should be the lawsuit of Brian and Jessica’s divorce.
“Maddie, what should I do? I don’t want Mom and Dad to divorce…” Jacob held back his tears and asked Madeline for help.
The solutions a little kid could come up with were indeed naive, but Madeline, Brian’s capable assistant, was the most likely person to help Jacob.
Madeline sneered in her heart and thought Jacob was naive and stupid. She wished Jessica would divorce Brian. So even if she had a way to stop their divorce, she wouldn’t tell him.
“Jake, it’s impossible for outsiders to interfere in their affairs. Besides, Mr. Atkinson and Jessica haven’t been getting along well recently.” Madeline sounded helpless. Seeing Jacob getting more and more down, she comforted him, “No matter what, I believe they love you very much.”
Jacob didn’t expect that even Madeline couldn’t help him, and he felt even more depressed.
He thought, ‘Am I going to be a child from a single–parent family and have a stepmother?‘
Several of his classmates‘ parents had divorced, and they seemed to have a hard time.
Worried about his future, Jacob asked Madeline, “Maddie, if Mom and Dad divorce, should I live with Dad or Mom?”
He had been thinking about this for a day and still couldn’t decide.
Madeline wished Jacob would go with Jessica so that her future child with Brian could rightfully inherit Atkinson Group. But she couldn’t say this
directly.
So she said, “Jake, do you know? Mom had to endure the hardship of being pregnant for ten months to give birth to you. If Jessica loses you, she might be so sad that she can’t go on living.”
Jacob widened his eyes slightly. It was the first time he knew how hard
as for his mother to carry him.
Madeline squinted her eyes. It would be great if Jacob left the Atkinson family with Jessica, but the difficult part was that the Atkinson family wouldn’t give up Jacob.
