Chapter 150
The receptionist stepped out from behind the desk and swiped the elevator open, gesturing for Bilar to follow her upstairs
Brian was momentarily confused, then realized Mr. Giant must be Dereck, not Jessica
He followed the receptionist into the elevator. She stopped at the twenty–eighth floor first to deliver Jessica’s meal, Brian wanted to tag along and te a glimpse of Jessica’s work environment.
But he held back, knowing that showing up uninvited would only upset Jessica.
Jessica opened the containers, releasing a fragrant aroma. The porridge was perfectly cooked, neither too thick nor too watery.
Another container held expertly stir–fried greens that looked absolutely appetizing.
The bottom layer contained several beautifully presented apple pies that made her mouth water.
Jessica still doubted Brian had made all the food himself, but she didn’t really care either way. She ladled out a bowl of porridge. The subtle sweetiess was pleasant without being cloying.
The greens were crisp and fresh, seasoned just right. For some reason, everything suited Jessica’s taste perfectly.
The apple pie was another story. Jessica forced herself to eat half of one before losing her appetite for it.
She downed most of the porridge from the thermos, eating it with some vegetables on the side.
What she didn’t know was that Brian was in Dereck’s office at that very moment, deep in conversation with the chalman.
Brian stayed for nearly an hour before finally leaving Grant Group.
He checked the time and decided against returning to the office. Instead, he headed back to Atkinson Villa to pick out ingredients for lunch
Sylvie watched anxiously from the sidelines, worried that Brian might take over all her duties and make her redundant. “Mrs. Atkinson prefers her spaghetti cooked a bit firmer,” Sylvie said while flipping through the recipe.
In truth, these were Brian and Jacob’s preferences. The notes recorded their tastes exclusively, with not a single word about Jessica’s actual preferences.
Brian had no idea about this mix–up. Looking back, he realized the spaghetti they’d eaten over the years had always been cooked with that slightly firm
texture.
He’d already mastered the asparagus and shrimp dish. After burning himself twice and getting blisters, Brian could now prepare it with ease.
Since Jessica had grown tired of various soups lately, Brian spent an hour and a hall preparing barbecue ribs especially for her.
For the soup, he kept it simple with chicken soup, just something light for Jessica to enjoy.
At lunchtime, Jessica waited for the usual delivery from home but was surprised when Brian showed up with lunch instead.
She became increasingly convinced that Brian couldn’t possibly be cooking all this food himself. There was no way a CEO of such a large company would have time to cook not just breakfast, but lunch tool
When she opened the thermos, Jessica had to admit she really did enjoy these dishes.
The barbecue ribs were surprisingly delicious, and Jessica savored every bite.
While the food tasted good, it clearly wasn’t at a professionalchef’s level. The flavors were somewhat lacking compared to restaurant standards.
Still, the taste wasn’t so poor that someone like Brian, who supposedly couldn’t cook, could have made it.
