Stella was about to close the door when Brian stopped her, “Please wait.”
“What else do you want to say?” Stella asked, looking at him in confusion.
Brian handed the thermal lunch box to Stella and said, “Since Jessi is asleep, I won’t disturb her. This is the chicken soup I simmered this afternoon Please give it to her when she wakes up.”
Stella looked at the thermal lunch box in front of her with a complicated expression. Why had Brian treated Jessica so badly before if he was being so kind now?
Thinking about what Jessica had endured in the past, Stella couldn’t help frowning. “No need. We can make chicken soup for her too. Since you’re divorced, you’d better come less in the future.” With that, she slammed the door, shutting Brian outside.
Brian looked at the closed door and could only leave helplessly. He carried the chicken soup into the house and was about to call Jacob to eat when he heard a familiar voice.
“Jacob, does it taste good? If you like it, I’ll make more later,” Madeline said gently, bringing out newly made snacks in the dining room.
“It’s so good. Thank you, Maddie.” Jacob was chewing the snacks and nodded vigorously. The next second, he suddenly noticed Brian coming back and immediately ran around Madeline.
“Dad, you’re back! Did you see Mom? Did Mom ask about me?” Jacob looked at Brian, waiting for his answer.
Madeline’s eyes toward Brian showed undisguised joy. “Welcome home, Mr. Atkinson.”
Brian reached out to touch Jacob’s head and said softly, “Mom was tired and went home early to rest. I’ll take you to see her at Grandpa’s house another day.”
Then he looked at Madeline coldly and asked unhappily, “Who let you in?”
He had clearly told the maid not to allow Madeline into his house again.
Madeline’s face instantly turned pale. “Mr. Atkinson, I…” She said, glancing at Jacob nervously.
Seeing her pitiful look, Jacob instinctively spoke up for her. “Dad, I asked Maddie to come in. Don’t blame her. Maddie is leaving the city and wants to see me one last time before she goes.”
Jacob’s face showed some sadness as he spoke. Madeline had taken care of him carefully for three years, and he really liked her, though his parents seemed to dislike her.
Brian looked at the sad–faced Jacob and finally didn’t say anything harsher. “This is the last time,” he warned Madeline.
After the hotel incident, his guard against Madeline was at an all–time high.
Madeline clenched the plate of snacks and pretended to look extremely guilty. “Okay. Thank you, Mr. Atkinson, I was foolish last time, and I really know!
was wrong.”
“You’d better be.” Brian gave her a cold look, took Jacob’s hand, and said to her, “You can leave now.” He wouldn’t allow Jacob to be alone with Madeline
anymore.
Madeline looked disappointed but still nodded obediently. “Okay, but I have one last thing. I’ll leave right after asking, and I promise never to bother you again. Mr. Atkinson, would you give me a minute to tell you something?”
Brian stopped and gave her a cold glance. “Speak.”
If she could really stop bothering them in the future, he could spare her this minute.

Madeline sighed in relief and smiled. “I booked a flight abroad tomorrow, but my car broke down. Could you take me to the airport forstraw
Brian frowned and wanted to refuse, but his hand was pulled. He looked at Jacob.
“Dad, I want to see Maddie off,” Jacob said.
“Thank you, Jacob.” Madeline’s eyes filled with tears, and she squatted down to hug Jacob, but Brian blocked her.
“That can be done.” Ignoring Madeline’s overjoyed expression, Brian pushed Jacob toward the stairs. “Jacob, go upstairs and rest first. I need to talk to Maddie about something.”
Jacob looked at his dad, then at Madeline, wanting to say something.
“Be good,” Brian patted Jacob’s head.
Jacob could only nod sadly. He took one last look at Madeline and then went upstairs reluctantly.
Madeline watched his back with tears in her eyes, looking like his biological mother.
“Enough. The audience is gone. You don’t need to act anymore,” Brian said sarcastically.
Madeline said pale–faced, “Mr. Atkinson, I really care about Jacob.”
Brian said impatiently, “Save it. I don’t care about that. I just want to warn you–since you’ve decided to leave, don’t come back.”
Madeline’s nails dug into the plate, furious inside but daring not show it. “But you just agreed to take me to the airport.”
“I did, but on the condition that you never contact Jacob again,” Brian said coldly. He didn’t want Jacob to be exposed to adult darkness at such a young age, but that didn’t mean he’d allow Madeline to keep deceiving his son.
Even if Madeline hadn’t decided to leave, he’d planned to deal with her. But since she was leaving now, he was willing to give her one last bit of dignity- if she behaved.
Madeline smiled bitterly. “Mr. Atkinson, do you really have to guard against me like this? I admit I was wrong at the hotel, but I’ve always been sincere to Jacob. If you don’t believe me, ask Jacob if I’ve ever been bad to him.”
Madeline was confident in her image in Jacob’s heart.
Facing her accusation, Brian said coldly, “Why do you think you’re still standing here?”
