“You bothered my dad again?” Jessica’s brows furrowed, her voice full of irritation.

Brian didn’t even try to make excuses. “Yeah, that was on me. I’m sorry. But I brought you a bacon and egg sandwich. Thought you might want to try it.”

He apologized with ease, but from the look in his eyes, it was clear he didn’t think he’d done anything truly wrong.

Jessica found his nonchalance infuriating.

“Brian, since when did you become so clingy?” Gabriela snapped.”

She crossed her arms and stepped forward, not about to miss the chance to back up her best friend.

Brian barely glanced at her, giving the smallest nod in acknowledgment before turning his full attention back to Jessica, making it obvious Gabriela’s opinion meant very little to him.

Gabriela’s fists clenched slightly.

“Jessi, you barely had breakfast,” Brian said gently. The sandwich is actually pretty good. Just have a bite, at least.”

Jessica noticed the curious glances from nearby employees and quickly decided she had no desire to drag this out in front of an audience. She snatched the bag from him and gestured toward the elevator. “Okay, message received. You can leave now.”

She couldn’t stand the sight of him any longer.
