Chapter 289
True to his word, Weston arrived at the company early the next morning.
The board members, spotting him, immediately assumed he was there to confront Brian and wasted no time approaching him with complaints.
“Mr. Atkinson, you really need to have a serious talk with Brian about his repeated no–shows with our partners. His behavior is damaging the company’s reputation.”
Weston cut them off sharply, “Enough. And who gave you the right to criticize my son?”
The board members fell silent, startled by his tone.
Without replying further, Weston instructed his secretary to call an urgent meeting with all the directors. During the meeting, he made it clear that anyone who dared to use Brian’s past mistakes against him again would face his wrath.
The board members exchanged uneasy glances, silenced by Weston’s unyielding support for Brian.
Although Weston had stepped back from day–to–day management years ago, his authority within Atkinson Group remained unquestioned.
With his father’s backing and assistance in managing company affairs, Brian finally found more time to care for Jessica. But instead of growing closer, Jessica’s rejection only intensified.
It wasn’t just Jessica. Even those around her grew increasingly hostile toward him.
“Jessi already told you to stop. Don’t you get it?” Sana blocked Brian’s path firmly.
Brian tried reasoning calmly, “But these are all things Jessi likes.”
Sana’s expression hardened. “So what? It’s not like Jessi needs your charity. What she doesn’t need is the way your presence always ruins her day. If you actually cared about her, you’d do the decent thing and stay out of her life.”
Sana’s feelings toward Brian had plummeted the moment she found out he had slept with Madeline, and worse, that Madeline was carrying his child.
Lately, just the sight of him was enough to put her on edge.
“Mr. Atkinson,” she said at last, her patience snapping, “do yourself a favor. Try holding on to what little dignity you have left.”
To her, Brian’s shamelessness was astonishing. He acted as if his mistakes could stay buried forever.
Brian’s tone was low but steady. “Ms. Gardner, I think there’s a misunderstanding between us. Could you explain what you mean?”
He sensed that miscommunication was at the root of the coldness from both Jessica and Sana.
“Me? You want me to explain?” Sana’s brow arched in disbelief, her contempt growing.
Just as she was about to confront him over Madeline’s pregnancy and his intrusion into Jessica’s life, Jessica unexpectedly returned.
“That’s enough. Don’t waste your time,” Jessica said, grabbing Sana’s arm and pulling her away.
“Jessi…” Sana glanced at Jessica, surprised.
‘Thought she left. Why is she back?‘ she wondered.
Brian’s face brightened as he stepped forward, ignoring Sana, and offered Jessica a bag of carefully chosen sweets.
“These are for you. I picked them to suit your taste. Please try some.”
