Chapter 292
She was shocked at how close she had come to accepting.
What are you thinking, Jessica? He’s not the same man you once knew,’ she chastised herself silently.
A flicker of regret crossed Brian’s eyes.
He had hoped that by not rejecting the bracelet outright, she might be softening toward him. He had been mistaken.
Though disappointed, he was accustomed to rejection and quickly composed himself.
“All right. I’ll go for now. I’ll come see you tomorrow. Jessi, get some rest.”
With a lingering glance, he turned and walked
away.
Jessica watched his retreating figure and bit her lip.
The following morning, Jessica woke early, went through her routine, and stood before her vanity. After a brief hesitation, she reached for the bracelet Brian had given her the day before and fastened it around her wrist.
It was too beautiful to be left untouched simply because of who it came from.
Down in the parking garage, Brian spotted Jessica walking toward the elevator from a distance.
He opened the car door and greeted her with breakfast bag in hand.

“I’ll drive you to work. You can eat on the way,” he said.
“No, thanks,” Jessica replied, sidestepping him as she moved toward the car.
Her bracelet caught Brian’s eye, and a small smile crept onto his lips.
He quickened his pace and called after her, “Take the breakfast with you. You can eat it at the office.”
“No need,” she repeated, opening the car door.
Before she could get in, Brian gently but firmly lifted her into the passenger seat.
“What are you doing?!” Jessica exclaimed.
Setting the breakfast aside, Brian buckled her seatbelt and spoke softly, “You’re not feeling well. I don’t want you driving alone.”
“And?” she shot back coolly.
Brian smiled gently. “Let me be your chauffeur today.”
Jessica rolled her eyes and responded bluntly, “Not happening. I can’t afford to pay you.”
Brian chuckled as if he hadn’t heard the sarcasm. No worries. I’m not charging.”
Jessica was left momentarily speechless.
Brian seized the keys from her, started the engine, and steered the car out of the garage.
“Stop! What are you doing?” Jessica’s frustration flared, but she knew better than to try grabbing the wheel.
Brian grinned. “Eat first. You’ll need energy if you want to yell at me later.”

Unable to protest, Jessica reluctantly took a sandwich and bit into it sharply.
Brian caught the moment out of the corner of his eye and smiled wider.
Once she started eating, it was clear she couldn’t stop.
By the time Brian parked outside the Grant Group building, Jessica had finished the entire breakfast.
