Chapter 300
*Jessi, have you seen what’s going around? Brian’s being hailed as the top husband in the entire high–society circuit. Can you believe le
Gabriela couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it.
“Brian? The epitome of a good husband? Please. He’s the last person who deserves that title. And yet, people are actually falling for those ridiculous P stunts online. They’re swooning over how ‘perfect‘ he is. It’s honestly killing me.”
Jessica let her lips curl faintly. “Yeah, it’s laughable.”
But no real amusement followed.
She’d seen the trending posts too, videos of Brian waiting patiently in line during office hours, picking out all her favorite street snacks as if he had nothing better to do.
For a fleeting moment, she’d felt moved.
But that feeling quickly soured. Because the more sincere his gestures looked on screen, the more painful the truth became.
‘If you’re capable of doing this now, Brian, why couldn’t you have stopped yourself back then? Why Madeline…
Her thoughts spiraled. Her fingers clenched tighter around the folder she was holding.
Gabriela noticed and gave her a concerned glance. “Jessi? You okay?”
Jessica snapped back to the present, blinking as though waking from a long pause. “Yeah. Sorry, what were you saying?”
She pressed two fingers to her temples, her voice apologetic. “I’ve been a little forgetful lately. Must be the pregnancy messing with my head.”
Gabriela studied her carefully, her tone softening. “You’ve been looking a little run–down lately. Is it work? Maybe it’s time to slow down, even just for a
bit.”
Jessica exhaled, not without frustration. “Between the Grant Group and Inkspire Studio, orders are pouring in nonstop. I don’t have the luxury of slowing down right now. Let’s just get through this phase, then we’ll see.”
She had already sacrificed her career once in the name of love. Now that she had clarity again, she wasn’t about to let emotion derail her path a second time.
Determined to shift the conversation back to safer ground, she set the folder down and asked, “What’s your take on the sudden order surge at Inkspire?*
A surge like that could be a blessing or a liability, depending on the source.
Gabriela, back in business mode, nodded. “From what my side has gathered, most of the orders are pouring in because of you and Brian. Or rather, because of the fairy tale people think you two are living. Turns out a lot of your new clients are actually fans.
She let out a half–laugh. “Honestly, internet sleuths are terrifying.
“They’ve uncovered almost everything about you in record time… except, of course, the one thing that’s actually true. Isn’t it ridiculous?”
Jessica responded with a dry, indifferent, “Yeah, funny how that works.”
She knew full well the truth hadn’t been missed. It had been deliberately buried. Someone had made sure their divorce stayed out of the public eye.
Gabriela raised an eyebrow. “So what’s Brian really trying to pull? Is he trying to win you back? Or is he just trying to stay on your radar long enough to make a play for custody when the time comes?”
Given everything he’d done recently, even she was starting to wonder if Brian genuinely regretted it all.
