Worry during pregnancy was a big no–no.

Jessica looked down, thinking it over. She realized there really wasn’t a better way.

She was pregnant. Whether for her life or her job, she couldn’t just move to another city far from Brian and Jacob.

She couldn’t leave, so she’d have to keep things as they were.

In that case, accepting seemed better than stressing over it nonstop.

Wesley saw she was deep in thought and didn’t disturb her. He just lifted his hand to call Tres over. He stroked the cat’s slightly greasy fur and checked the time.

“Dr. Finch, do you have another appointment later?” Jessica came to her senses. She noticed the scene and asked with concern.

Wesley nodded. “Yes, I’ve got an appointment at the pet shop to take Tres for a bath. Is there anything else you need to ask, Ms. Grant?”

Jessica shook her head. Her eyes moved to Tres in his arms. “Can I come with you? I was planning to buy some new toys for my Pancake anyway

“Of course,” Wesley agreed.

They walked out of the building, one after the other.

On the way, Wesley even held out Tres for Jessica to carry.

The bodyguard Brian had sent to keep an eye on Jessica from a distance saw her carrying a cat and laughing and talking with a man as they came out. He called Brian to report while driving to follow them.

When Brian got the call, his face turned completely dark.

“Follow them. See where they’re going. Send me the address as soon as you get there.” He hung up, grabbed his car keys, and left the office.

On the way, he found out Jessica and Wesley were going to the pet shop. Brian immediately turned the car around and headed back to the apartment.

“Jake, go to Mom’s place and get Pancake,” Brian called out as he opened the door.

Jessica had added Jacob’s fingerprints to her door earlier to make it easy for him to drop by for advice. It came in handy now.

“Great, Dad. Are we going to walk Pancake for Mom again?” Jacob was playing with toys on the floor. He scrambled up and ran over.

“No. I’m taking Pancake to get a bath. If your mom asks, tell her you thought the dog looked a bit dirty when you were walking it and wanted to get it cleaned up. Got it?” Brian instructed Jacob.

Jacob pouted, “Dad, you’re making me take the blame again.”

Brian sighed to himself, thinking, ‘Oh, my silly boy, this isn’t about making you take the blame. It’s about helping me try to keep your mom around.

Brian said, “Alright, go on. I’ll buy you that new toy/you’ve had your eye on tomorrow.”

As soon as he said that, all of Jacob’s dissatisfaction disappeared. Jacob skipped off to the next apartment to get the dog.

At the pet shop, Jessica was using her phone to take pictures of Tres who had bubbles all over it as the shop assistant scrubbed it. She had a big smile on her face.
