“Go far away) Chapter1: New Name, New Life

“Ms. Anderson, are you sure about changing your name? It’s a real hassle-
you’ll have to update everything: your diploma, driver’s license, passport,
everything.”
Clara nodded.“Yes.”
The clerk asked again, “Are you sure you wouldn’t care to think about it? It’s a
pretty long and arduous process for adults to change their names, and ‘Clara
Anderson‘ is a pretty name.”
“I’m sure.”
Clara signed the paperwork.“Thanks.”
“Okay, your new name is… Faraway Anderson, right?”
“Yeah.”
Faraway. She would go
far away.
That was her plan for the future.
She needed to get out of here, completely.
“Can I get my passport changed now?”

“Sure. Here is your receipt for the change of name. Take this downstairs to
the passport window.”
Clara got her passport updated lightning–fast. But the rest- her college
diploma, birth certificate- she left untouched.
She was leaving in a week with her new passport. Her old identity could stay
put; she didn’t need it
anymore.
Stepping out of the office, she saw the city’s iconic skyscraper across the
street. On the jumbotron, an interview with Ethan Payne, CEO of Sterling
Group, was playing.
The host noticed something. “Mr. Payne, you keep touching your ring… But
looks like it’s just a very common silver ring. Is there anything special about it?”
Ethan smiled softly, raising his hand. “It’s my wedding ring.”
“Oh? I figured for someone of your stature, it would be a big diamond ring.”
Ethan said, “I made it myself, slowly and carefully. I even engraved our
names inside.”
“Wow, I see two sets of initials… EP and…”
Ethan said, “CA. My wife’s name is Clara Anderson.”

a gift.”
She and Ethan had been deeply in love. They were high school sweethearts
and married five years. To everyone, they were the perfect couple.
That was also what she believed until two months ago.
She received a picture from an unknown woman. The girl looked barely
twenty, wearing lacy lingerie. Her neck and chest were covered in bruises.
Obviously, she just had a wild sex.
The girl gave a V–sign to the camera. And on her finger, there was a silver
ring. It was a man’s size and engraved with “EP&CA“.
Clara had seen the girl at Ethan’s office. Her name was Lily. A recent college
grad and Ethan’s new personal assistant.
Clara was stunned. She almost burst into Ethan’s office and asked if his
assistant moonlighted as his mistress.
But she didn’t. Lily’s bruises said it all.
