Leah let out a hearty laugh, she clearly didn't think her question was that upfront.
"No reason, I just want to know what type of girl has the heart of a gentle man like you."
Being put on the spot by her as she gazed at him, Ernest felt a little flustered. He calmly put the knife away, handed over the peeled peach in his hands, and retrieved the one Leah was holding.
In that moment, their fingers brushed against each other's unintentionally. The both of them put on an unaffected expression, despite stiffening at the touch.
"Well, tell me." Leah asked again.
"She's kind and beautiful," Ernest said calmly.
Leah's eyes widened. She said in a surprised tone, "Wow, Immorternest, you look like you're someone who sees beyond the surface. Who would've thought that you would judge a book by its cover?"
Ernest was stunned and asked in response, "It's just human nature. I'm just an ordinary person."
Leah stared blankly for a moment before she stretched her neck and laughed. She continued gnawing away at the peaches. "Gentle and beautiful. Let me guess, let's unpack what makes someone gentle. If she's gentle, she must be virtuous and ethical. Extending to the beauty department, she must be visually attractive. These standards seem pretty simple, but in actuality, these are quite high-end requirements."
Ernest gave it a thought and said frankly, "That's right."
Leah nodded. Facing Immorternest, she concluded that he really had high standards. "Then a question for you, Immorternest, since you're a passive guy unwilling to initiate a confession, if this person you like was snatched away by someone else, what would you do?"
After finishing her sentence, Leah discerned a hint of solemnity in his smile. Even though he was still smiling, Leah had the ability to spot the subtle changes in the minute details of his expression.
It seemed like the graceful young man in front of her had deep feelings for the girl in his heart. She must've been truly be gentle and beautiful for him to feel that way.
Leah smiled and retracted her gaze. She didn't want to interrogate his feelings any further and only said, "Immorternest, let me give you a word of advice. In the future, you should be more proactive, or else you'll miss out on a good girl."
"Then I hope there will come a time where your wish comes true." Ernest replied unexpectedly.
Leah was stunned and burst into laughter. "That's right, I made that wish just for your sake."
"Then I'd really have to thank you."
"You're welcome." Leah waved him off. She ate the peaches then she said, "Forget it, I'll eat three. If I eat too much I'm afraid I won't have space left for lunch."
"We still have one more." Ernest reminded her.
"The most important matter is the peach juice, if I eat too much I might need to use the toilet, and it's not easy for a girl to find a restroom in public." Leah suddenly stood up and looked into the direction where Adrian had disappeared to. She muttered to herself, "Adrian said he was going to the restroom, but this is the back route of the mountain. There's definitely no restroom here."
Ernest was surprised, and then he frowned slightly.
"So my guess is he found a random spot and swiftly finished his business." Leah raised her hand and shielded her eyes to look farther. "Would you look at that, such is the convenience of being a boy. I'm a girl, so I can't solve the same problem as easily as you guys. I should probably eat one less peach."
Ernest was completely shocked. He didn't expect for her to be able to freely talk about those problems with him. Was she even conscious that she was a girl?
However, when he looked back again at Leah, she still appeared natural and unbothered, so much so that it made him feel that he might have overthought a little.
Ernest shook his head and chuckled. He wiped the knife with tissue, folded it, and put it away.
"Hey Immorternest, do you want to make a bet with me?" Leah plopped the pit of the peach into the bag and took a piece of tissue from Ernest as she looked at him.
Ernest smiled again and said, "What kind of bet?"
"Let's bet on Adrian. Do you think he's taking a number one or number two?" Leah kept her eyes on the direction where Adrian had run off to. She couldn't even spot his figure, and surmised that he was probably squatting in some corner taking a number two.
"Huh?" There was a feeling of defeat as he felt like he wanted to slap his forehead. He smiled fondly at Leah and his gaze landed on her powerlessly. He was seemingly amazed and shocked at the sheer unfiltered words of the girl.
"I'm not betting on it. How could you even come
up with these kinds of things?"
Leah squatted down and sat on a stone beside Ernest. She propped her chin with one hand and glanced at Ernest with a bright smile. "It's not like it's a bad thing to talk about, is it? Everyone needs to do it. I'll ask him about it later. My guess is that he's taking a number two considering the fact that he's been gone for so long. Immorternest, are you betting on number one or number two?"
"I said I'm not betting." Ernest kept a smile and maintained his demeanor.
Leah blinked and said, "Immorternest, you should have some excitement in life. Just staying cool can only get you so far. If the time is right, indulge in a little more naughty and fun things, and your life will be super interesting."
Sure enough, Adrian came back within around three minutes.
"Hey, were you constipated?" Leah asked straightforwardly.
"Come again?" Adrian's eyes widened.
Ernest brought his hand to his forehead after seeing Adrian's mortified expression. He decided to stay silent and let the scene play out in front of him.
"You went to look for a restroom just now, didn't you? You were gone for so long, what else could it have been other than constipation?" Leah even put on a caring act. "Don't worry, constipation can be cured. Once it's cured, you could save a lot of time."
"Leah." Adrian gritted his teeth. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
Could the woman not think any better of him? He was trying to create an opportunity for her and Ernest, and yet everything she was saying right then was just poking fun at him.
"Nonsense?" Leah glanced at Adrian and then laughed with a sly expression. "Well then, feel free to interpret it as nonsense."
"Everything you've said has been nonsense," Adrian complained again. "Ernest, do you have nothing to say to this?"
Ernest shook his head and said seriously, "No, not really."
"Screw you guys, you two really have no conscience." If Adrian had known that Leah would end up saying stuff like that, he wouldn't have left them alone, and he would have never created an opportunity forthem.
"What's wrong with the two of us? If you want to say something about me, you can do it, but don't drag Immorternest into this. Our dear Immorternest here isn't even a normal human being, doesn't your conscience hurt when you rope him in?" Leah said. "Just say whatever you want towards me. I'm thick-skinned, I can handle it."
"There's no doubt that you're thick-skinned." Adrian was speechless as he looked at the both of them. "Let's descend the mountain and find a place to eat."
"Okay, but were you taking a number one or number two just now?"
"One!" Adrian roared angrily.
"Aw, I guessed wrongly." Leah sagged her shoulders in disappointment and sighed disdainfully. "I can't believe I actually made an incorrect assumption."
Anyhow, when they went down the mountain, Leah looked like she was in deep thought, and no one could decipher what in the world she was thinking about.
