"You haven't slept at all?" Brett asked, sounding hoarse. The smell of nicotine still lingered on him, and it wasn't unpleasant as he spoke.

Izabella glanced up at him unintentionally and noticed that Brett's eyes were bloodshot. He usually looked cold and aloof but now seemed troubled and serious.

"I’m about to sleep, but not yet." She suffered from insomnia and needed to meditate for a few hours before she could get some light sleep. Now that Brett had woken her up, there was no telling when she could sleep again.

Izabella casually asked, "Why did you come home so late today?"

"Something came up at work."

"Oh."

The atmosphere between them became increasingly awkward. In the past, Brett had either looked at her with disdain or indifference, but today his gaze was filled with reluctance, guilt, entanglement, and pain.

"Where did the 5 million in your account go?"

Izabella was taken aback, then quickly responded, "I gave it to Heckter."

After saying this, she could tell that Brett was getting upset.

"I went to the casino that day to save Lucas by paying off his debt, so I gave my money to Heckter."

"I've seen the agreement Heckter made you sign. It said you only had to sleep with him for one night to clear the debt. And indeed, you were in his bed at the time."

Izabella's face changed. What was Brett trying to say?

"You didn't, but you're looking at me like I have malicious written all over my face." Izabella couldn't help but scoff. "So, you came back late just to interrogate me and convict me?"

"The kidnappers want you to bring 100 million to exchange for Kaley. Tomorrow afternoon they will send the location."

Izabella suddenly realized something. Kaley was Brett's childhood friend and the girl he grew up with and loved. Their relationship was much stronger than most. As for Izabella, she was worse off than a dog. To exchange her for Kaley's life would be only natural.

"You want me to exchange myself for Kaley? On what grounds? Just because my account is missing 5 million, you think I had Kaley kidnapped?"

"How could you think that after knowing the kind of person Heckter is and witnessing what I went through that night, you actually believe I would take the money to hire him to kidnap Kaley?" Izabella taunted.

"In the end, you're just using that as an excuse, so you can feel justified in sending me into Heckter's hands in order to get Kaley back!"
