"What did you say?" Sandra thought she had misheard Will.

Will cleared his throat before repeating himself, "Let's have another baby."

Sandra stopped abruptly in her tracks and stared at him as if she were looking at an idiot. After staring at him, she said, "Have you lost your mind?"

Will was speechless. Ever since the shipwreck, Sandra had been especially cold and indifferent toward him. The number of times she went back to her home and went on vacation increased by a lot. She was seldom at home.

At first, Will thought that Shaun's and Alex's deaths had affected her immensely. Shaun's death hit her quite hard, and perhaps staying home would remind her of Shaun all the time. Therefore, Will thought it was good that she left the house to relax.

Six years had passed since The Ruby sank, but Sandra hadn't changed for the better. Even a fool would realize that something was wrong with her.

When Will went drinking once, he told his vice commander about this.

The vice commander was aware of the shipwreck incident. His exact words were, "Consider yourself lucky. She would've filed for a divorce if it weren't for the law prohibiting military men from getting divorced."

Only then did Will realize how serious the problem was. He then asked the vice commander for advice.

The advice was that Sandra was giving Will the cold shoulder because Shaun was gone. The best way to solve this problem was for them to have another child. Since Will was retired, he had the time to take care of a child anyway.

Will thought it was a reasonable idea. He couldn't let the Thompson line end with him, after all. It was just that trying for a child at his and Sandra's age didn't sound practical.

"You missed the point," said the vice commander. "It's not entirely about having another child. It's more about getting close to your wife when you two do the deed."

Realization dawned on Will, and that was the reason he prepared those pick-up lines he wrote on the strip of paper that he kept in his pocket.

He spoke facts. How could she ask him to find another woman to bear his child? Doing that was akin to cheating on her! How could he do something like that? The thought had never crossed his mind!

Sandra left in a hurry and failed to notice a little boy with a cup in his hand coming her way. He held a cup of hot chocolate as he headed her way. The two of them collided, and the drink spilled on her white dress, staining it brown.

"Sorry!" the boy apologized for walking into her.

"Are you okay?" Will asked, approaching them.

Ignoring Will, Sandra stared at the boy and froze. The boy was about three years old and had brown curly hair. He was good-looking and had pretty eyes and long eyelashes. He had a small, straight nose, and the little curve of the corner of his mouth instantly reminded her of Shaun.

The boy looked quite like Shaun when he was young.
