"Don't you dare!" Eli bellowed, his eyes red with rage. He looked like a beast that had been provoked.

"We'll do whatever we want with your mother." Garret snickered as he grabbed Eli's chin in his vice-like grip. "So, tell me, are you going to do it?"

"Let him go!" The bright voice of a girl sounded from behind him.

Eli, Garret, and his lackeys turned to see a slim and tall girl striding over to them, her ponytail swaying as she walked. The rays of the setting sun shone from behind her, casting her shadow on the ground as she stopped at the end of the street.

"Who the heck are you? Mind your own business!" one of the lackeys yelled.

"I'm Dora. Let go of him," said Dora, her arms akimbo. "Why don't you come at me instead?"

In her mind, she thought she was as cool as she could ever be. A girl coming to a boy's rescue… Surely, Eli would be so touched by what she did!

However, in Eli's eyes, she was an idiot.

"Idiot!" Eli muttered under his breath. How could she come all the way here alone?

Garret and his lackeys were taken by surprise. They never thought that Dora would come here alone and of her own accord.

Everyone knew that she was Bernard and Dr. Shadow's daughter. The Killian family and Dr. Shadow were immeasurably wealthy.

Garret and his lackeys wanted to get some money from Dora, but they didn't dare offend the Killian family. Therefore, they came up with the idea of having Eli ask Dora for money.

Who knew that she'd come here on her own? Garret and his lackeys didn't even have to lift a finger to get what they wanted now.

"Great! Dora's here, so ask her for the money now!" Buck Teeth told Eli in a hushed voice.

Eli simply glowered at Buck Teeth.

Even Eli was speechless. He never thought Dora was so adept at fighting. But soon, he snapped out of his daze, wrung his arms free from the two lackeys who pinned him against the wall and ran away as fast as his legs could bring him.

"Let's go!" He grabbed Dora's hand and pulled her along with him.

The sudden warmth around Dora's hand made her look down. She saw Eli's hand around hers, and she stared at him as she started spiraling into a daze.

It was dusk right now. They were at the food street, with him holding her hand. The two of them pushed through the crowd as their elongated shadows were cast on the ground in the setting sun…

Countless thoughts filled Dora's mind, and she wasn't aware of where she was heading. All of a sudden, she bumped into something, which made her stop her daydreaming.

Looking up, she saw the bald, shining head of their school's Director of Education and cursed inwardly.
