Kiara then sent a photo to the group chat.
In the photo, a boy was surrounded by several teenagers. Although Dora could only see the boy's back, she could tell that it was Eli.
"What?" Dora yelped, leaping up from her bed. "How dare they bully Eli!"
She quickly called Kiara. "Kiara, when did this happen? Where is Eli?"
"It's happening right now," Kiara answered. "They're in the food street near our school. My friend sent me the photo. I think they're still there. Should we call the cops?"
"I'll head over to check on Eli first!" said Dora, putting on her shoes.
Hanging up, she ran out of her bedroom and bumped into Tiffany.
"Where are you going, Dora?" asked Tiffany, concerned.
"I… I left my workbook at school, so I'm heading back to get it." It was an excuse Dora came up with in a hurry. After leaving the house, she hailed a cab and got into the car.
A puzzled Tiffany simply stared as Dora left. Since when did Dora enjoy studying so much? Besides, it was the weekend. The school wasn't open, right?
…
The food street was always crowded on the weekends. Some students who stayed at the school dormitory would come here.
However, the students didn't dare go near the end of the street because everyone knew it was Garret Cole's turf. Garret was a gangster. He and his lackeys would often drag unfortunate students to the end of the street. They'd then demand "fees" from these poor students.
At the moment, Garret and his lackeys were doing precisely that. They all had tattoos on their arms, and they stood menacingly around Eli. Two of them pinned Eli against the wall.
Outnumbered and unable to move, Eli could only glare at them in silence. One of the teenagers with buck teeth was especially displeased with Eli because he still wouldn't give in.
Garret clucked his tongue. "Oh? Protecting her now, aren't you?" He shook his head, amused.
Eli pursed his lips, still not going to agree to Garret's request.
Garret sniggered. He had seen too many examples of poor people like Eli, and all of them tried to be righteous at first, but they all changed because of wealth and power in the end.
Garret's expression turned grave all of a sudden as he said, "You have no choice! Your poor mother works three jobs a day to send you to school. She does that so that you can be friends with rich children and find yourself a rich wife in the future!
"Aren't you curious if she can afford your school fees if she becomes jobless?"
That said, Garret shot Buck Teeth a look. Receiving the signal, Buck Teeth took out his phone and played a video.
There was a woman in the video. She was carrying a box of carbonated drinks from a van to the warehouse of a supermarket. The woman was none other than Eli's mother.
