"Shaun, this isn't just about whose last name your child will take. We don't even know if your grandfather will agree to let you marry Ms. Steele," Johnson pointed out. "Besides, why does she insist on having her child take her last name?"

Shaun muttered after gulping down some wine, "Because the child has a throne to inherit."

Johnson fell silent. Didn't Samantha have a mixed bloodline? Did the people in her country favor boys over girls?

Bernard sat straight on the couch and placed his wine glass on the table. "It's simple. You can have more children. Your first child can take your last name, and your second child can take her last name. If you two get another child, you can let your families decide."

The longer Shaun listened, the more reasonable the idea sounded. The Thompson family only ever had a descendant for each generation.

They were unlike the Killian family, which had lots of descendants. That was why the idea of having more than one child didn't cross his mind.

Pleased that he now had a solution, he quickly filled Bernard's glass with wine.

"What if my grandpa still rejects the idea when I have my third child?" said Shaun.

He knew just how obstinate Alex could be. Alex wouldn't change his mind after setting his mind to something. Alex might not give Shaun the green light even if Shaun had more than ten children.

Hearing that, Bernard grabbed his glass of wine and took another sip to contemplate the question. A moment later, he said, "It's simple. You just have to take Samantha and the children back to Elvermark. Let your children fight for the throne with the other members of the royal family."

He continued, "If one of your children succeeds, you'll even earn yourself a prestigious title."

"What?" Johnson blurted in disbelief. Would Shaun really let his children fight for the throne?

"A matrilocal marriage, you mean?" Shaun put his glass down heavily on the table. "No way! That's not happening! There are so many other women in the world that I can choose from. It's just that she's not like those women out there who are only after my money. Going matrilocal? No way!"

"Then, why are you even upset? Just break up and find a woman your grandfather approves. That settles it," Bernard stated plainly.

Shaun pretended to be righteous about it by saying, "This isn't about that. It's about my dignity! Even if I die single and without a child, I will never leech off a woman!"

That said, he looked at Bernard and then at Johnson, asking, "Will you two leech off women, though?"

"Hello? The Everett family can't even come close to Bernard, alright?" said Shaun.

Johnson piped in, "Right! So, Bernard, stop being humble. Don't ask us something like that anymore. No one would have you marry into their family much less ask you to move into their house."

Shaun added, "You're a lucky fellow, Bernard. Hera's the best woman you can ever get. Stop asking others to marry into their women's families."

Bernard, who had been rejected when he offered to marry into Hera's family, remained quiet as Johnson and Shaun ranted away.

The clinic wasn't closed yet when Hera arrived in the evening. The acupuncture session for one of the patients today took a bit more time, so they had to close the clinic a little later.

By then, Wayne was already done with his tasks and was sitting in the hall. He checked his phone from time to time as if he were waiting for someone to call him.

"You can leave if you have something to attend to," said Hera when she saw the troubled look on his face. "I'll drive Grandma back home later."
